Reford Gardens. One of Canada’s Premier Garden DestinationsThe Reford Gardens/Jardins de Métis are recognized as one of Canada’s outstanding gardens. A national historic site, they were created by a passionate gardener and plant lover, Elsie Reford, between 1926 and 1958. Visitors to this verdant domain of more 200 acres can admire the splendours of some 3,000 species and varieties of native and exotic plants displayed in fifteen gardens. A dozen sculptures by contemporary artists are discovered as you walk the pathways and traverse the gardens.

We visited these gardens in September and were so impressed by their beauty even at the end of the season. Very peaceful overlooking the river. Lots of inspiration. Would like to have a season pass and go back often throughout the year. Thousands of snow geese migrating south on the river was a bonus at this time of year.

The garden is well maintained and the historical value of the visit is high. I assume during the summer the flowers must be awesome. Still we really enjoyed our visit.

We drove some 30 miles from our hotel to see these gardens and now, having seen them, we would perhaps have driven 100. We found this place to be a real gem. Even though all the flowers were not all still in bloom, the numerous walkways still offered many that were and the natural setting with the stream running though... More

I have read about this garden for years, and was so eager to visit. Unfortunately, my expectations were too high - firstly, I am a Victoria BC native, so I compare every garden to Butcharts Gardens (among the best in the world) and secondly, also being from Victoria, I expect a garden to be flowering and glamorous well into October.... This was not as nice as I expected it to be. It was just okay. It was a little bit overpriced for what it was, compared to other gardens I have visited. I was disappointed there was not more. The gardens are very well maintained and it is beautiful.

Besides visiting the gardens we had a culinary lunch at the restaurant. The flower appetizer was most impressive. Lamb came from the site and all the vegetables were locally grown. Fish and sea food is also on the menu. The wine list is quite impressive. Frankly to have lunch at this place is a must.

We stopped there while there was still some light rain that got us hesitating a bit, but in the end it was really worth it. It's really beautiful and the fun is guaranteed with kids that are at least able to read the names, my 7yr old son was always looking for the names and thought it really fun to... More

Our third visit and not our last. This is an enchanting oasis with an interesting history, wonderful views and something for everyone. We always like the wacky installations, which are updated regularly. This year's change was the completed eco house. I was expecting a rustic Greenacres affair but it is ultra chic as well as being ultra efficient. The only... More

We stopped at the gardens en route to Gaspé National Park. It was pouring rain and we thought twice about it and I’m glad we did. Our inn-keeper gave us coupons for 15 per cent off the entrance fee, which made the detour even sweeter. The staff had a supply of enormous umbrellas at the entrance, which we were thankful... More

This was our first stop on our trip of the Gaspe peninsula. We spent about an hour and half and then continued our trip North. A great stop for people who like gardens
