Reford Gardens. One of Canada’s Premier Garden DestinationsThe Reford Gardens/Jardins de Métis are recognized as one of Canada’s outstanding gardens. A national historic site, they were created by a passionate gardener and plant lover, Elsie Reford, between 1926 and 1958. Visitors to this verdant domain of more 200 acres can admire the splendours of some 3,000 species and varieties of native and exotic plants displayed in fifteen gardens. A dozen sculptures by contemporary artists are discovered as you walk the pathways and traverse the gardens.

We take time to visit the gardens a few times every summer. It’s by far the most vibrant, beautiful, and enriching facility in the region. My kids really appreciate the Zen time in nature festival has a lot of fun installations. The schedule of cultural activities is really impressive. The best place to take amazing photos. Definitely worth taking the time and paying the entrance fee. We usually have a meal at one of the great restaurants in Saint Flavie before or after. The food at the gardens is high-quality but a bit too fancy for kids.

I've had this garden on my bucket list for a long time and I was not disappointed. We visited mid-September and it was still spectacular, I can just imagine what they are like at the height of the season! Don't forget to go to the house and see the exhibition about Elsie Reford, as well as saying hello to the Lambmowers - a group of sheep in charge of keeping the grass short :)

Visited the summer home/fishing lodge at Jardins de Metis. Absolutely magnificent structure & the walk thru the gardens was beautiful. Well worth the time. Great experience. A must see if you visit Metis.

A lovely experience and beautifully laid out. The family history was informative and gave a peak into the lifestyle of the rich in the early 1900s. The blue poppy is a great draw and very rare to see. One could spend the day here and picnic.

I visited les Jardins de Métis on my last trip to Le bas du fleuve. I had an incredible time. Those are lovely gardens! They are very well maintained and you get a diversity of flowers. I recommend it anyone, young or old.

After a 10-day road trip through the Gaspesie, you would think that our most memorable moment would involve the sea, a river or a mountain, but no, it was the Reford Gardens. These wonderful gardens have been carved out of, but integrated with, the native landscape. There are streams, a lake, a meadow and a lovely house. It was unbelievable that there could be so many plants in bloom in late September at this location. There is an excellent restaurant where we enjoyed a delicious lunch. We spent three hours in the gardens which was not enough.

Wonderful venue. Very well organized. We were there on a day in early September when the weather was not the best but it was still wonderful. Lots of plants in bloom, well marked by variety, map of the grounds easy to follow, English-speaking staff available to assist. Food in The Burton was excellent and well-priced ( the other restaurants had closed, unfortunately). Great gift shop.

On our drive from Matane to the ferry at Trois-Pistoles, we had to pass right by this garden. The flowers were still beautiful, although they would probably be better in the spring.
We tried to make a reservation for lunch at Estavan Lodge but were told that they did not have enough food available to accept us. The lineup at "The Bufton' was very long, so we left without eating.
Also, we did find the directions to the exit to be confusing.

We were 2 adults that visited this outstanding English garden on August 31, 2021. We were staying at the Riotel Hotel in Matane & the gardens were only 45 minutes away. Since it was a sunny & warm day, we decided to go visit the gardens. We arrived there at 9 a.m. and there were only a few cars in the parking lot. That was soon about to change!! We spent close to 3 hours wandering around the grounds and we took so many beautiful photos. It is most important that you make your way to Estevan Lodge and see the exhibit on the life of Elsie Reford. It is simply fabulous. A friend told us that we had to stop and have lunch at the Bufton Restaurant. It is a cafeteria style restaurant with the daily menu posted bulletin board style. I ordered the sandwich of the day, the best pork sandwich that I have ever had. My friend had a beef dish, which he said was very delicious. By the time that we left at 12:30 p.m. the parking lot was full. We are glad that we went early. Do not forget to check out the souvenir shops. We bought gifts in both shops. Enjoy your stay.
