The Helmjet up is not cheap, although young children ride for free. The restaurant near the top station has a stunning panoramic mountain view, especially of the Zwölfer. Near the restaurant Olperl's walk starts with a small wooden village that is very exciting for smaller children. The walk itself goes up and down and has various small stops, a lookout tower, routes with special soil types (meant to be walked barefoot) and resting areas. On the top a small puddle and benches provide an ideal picnic spot, with great views. From here a walking route goes further up to the actual top of the Helm. However, Olperl's buggy proof route goes down from here, leading you back to the restaurant. With a 2-year old walking himself and a 1-year old in a buggy, and halting often at the various sites, we spent around 2 hours on the walk. Including playing time in the wooden village.

The cable car allows you to enjoy the Monte Elmo area, which is a skiing and hiking area within the Park of the Three Peaks and the Sesto Dolomites, and is accessible from Versciaco (Br. By S. Candido) as in our case and the Croda Rossa plant connected to each other.
We are between 1,130 and 2,200 m above sea level between valley and mountain and you can admire numerous peaks over 3000 meters, the Operl Nature Park for children, areas dedicated to paragliding enthusiasts and numerous trails and hikes (Prati di Croda Rossa, Sillianer Hutte refuge in Austrian territory, Monte Elmo, etc.).
Of course prices are high in July and August (€ 25/ride, a little less with online purchase) but, for those who have the opportunity to use it by June 30, the modern and efficient gondola is free (3 Zinnen Mountain Card).
I would say a must of this Dolomite area

One of the most beautiful walks in the area done with 7 and 10 year old children, starting from the arrival of the lifts with destination Sillianer Hutte Refuge, following path 4 and deviating on the border barracks (I think path 4a), which lengthens it a little and it is uphill, but I recommend doing it for the view you can enjoy from that point.
Upon returning we did the sensory path barefoot, the children had fun (and got splinters in their feet!)
A walk worth doing if you are in the area

once up on the top (2050 ... or a bit more even), the view is just amazing, it feels your spirit with joy. To ski it is also very beautiful if you are a good skier, if you are learning, probably not the easiest place (slopes somewhat crowded and quite steep - but not impossible :-))

Got an early ski lift {{cable car} up Mount Elmo to the Hutte at the destination of the ski -lift and choose a healthy and hearty sub-Tyrol breakfast /lunch. Most enjoyable!! Views are spectacular and made even more so by para-scenders using the azure blue skies to descnd to the valley floor.
Will be back soon.

I like to ski in Sexten/Helm/Moos ski area. My favorite small ski resort in the area of South Tirol. Good prepared ski piste.

I have been up there several times and in all seasons. I really like the ski slopes, steep and well prepared. The quality of skiing in this area is generally very high. During the other seasons the area is great for hiking. Definitely try out the Hahnenspiel HĂĽtte for food.

This area, on the border between Austria and Italy has some great walking. The views are outstanding - miles across the valley in all directions. It's a tough climb though.

We took the cable car up and it's not cheap - I forget the cost but worth checking. At the top of the lift there's a Kneipp walk, to be done barefoot over various surfaces. Not bad after doing the tough walk up to Mount Elmo itself.

Salve, qualcuno conosce l'escursione organizzata "alba sul monte Elmo"?
Written July 14, 2017
ho visto che la organizzano quando sono stata a Sesto, ma nel periodo che ero in montagna il tempo non lo permetteva
