This is history brought to life. According to nowadays standards it is sort of bare but when time and conditions are taken into account it makes a Lot of sense. Well worth a visit.

Spoleto is an enchanting walled city full of attractions within the walls -- but do NOT miss the highly important (and UNESCO designated World Heritage site) outside the walls. Thankfully, almost nothing was done to "improve" the church over the centuries and it is possible...More

Basilica di San Salvatore, located just outside Spoleto city walls, is an interesting early Christian building which overlooks a large cemetery. The building dates from the late IV century, the architectural design is said to be built in the style of a pagan temple. From...More

The Basilica di San Salvatore, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a humbling and awe-inspiring work of art, a quiet and reverential structure that holds within it a sense of what the earliest Christian sanctuaries were like. There are here Roman temple architectural influences and...More

A bit difficult to access outside Spoleto and hidden behind the cemetary lies this nice church with an interesting combination of architectural styles. The view of Spoleto and the fortress is very nice from the adjacent olive plantageon.

This is one of the best examples of early archeology of any church or basilica and is wonderful. Be careful of opening hours though as we had to return

The Duomo is interesting and impressive, and the Rocca is big and imposing, but the real gem of Spoleto is this unassuming Basilica outside the city walls. It's not that far, all things considered, but in Spoleto you get used to everything being just a...More

We found that it is open from 10-12 and then 3-6. The inside is so very impressive. The columns, frescoes and just the general feel is fantastic.

I am very interested in visiting Basilica di San Salvatore during my visit to Assisi. I understand it is close by. Not sure is we will be transported by auto or train. What are the hours that you can visit the basilica on a Saturday in June 2016?
