wonderfully balanced

not the pomp and chic of so many many other magnificent cathedrals in Umbria, but a wonderfully balanced, intimate, sober - but not austere- Roman church.

We walked about the beautiful square. At one end is the cathedral which looks impressive especially with its wide flight of stairs. There were many beautiful old buildings and the cathedral stood out. One gets spoiled in Umbria with so many impressive eligious edifices. This one did not seem much different that others we had seen in a week in... More

There is a large steep parvise leading up to the rather small Cathedral, making it look more imposing. The inside is rather bare, except for the magnificent fresco on the counter-façade - a Universal Judgement by F. Fenzoni, inspired to the one in the Sistine Chapel

The designations and distinctions of Cathedral, Basilica and Duomo are interesting, wrapped in Liturgical legalese and geographic bows, and subject to change at various points in time. This one is a powerbroker of impressive and varied credentials. Theres often slightly schizophrenic aspect to Italian churches. Some are evenly balanced inside and to in terms of artistic appeal. Many are more... More

This cathedral is at the end of the central square of Todi. As usual, you have on a side the City Hall and, on the other, the Cathedral: two different powers, opposed to each other. I expecially loved the facade, in pink marble and the rose window. Inside, there is a huge and spectacular fresco representing "The Universal Judgment", cleary... More

Don’t get misled by the plain simplicity of the exterior, this church is a gem. Even the exterior, that may look like two square boxes juxtaposed beside each other, will be more and more of your liking as you look at them. The deep charm of the Romanesque style is in full swing as you enter, when the bright elegant... More

Nice cathedral in which to spend some quiet time. Sit down and let the space envelop you. Look both ways to get the full feeling.

A lot of steps for what appears to be a plain church, once inside turn around for a nice surprise. Also an interesting stained glass window which can not be seen in its full glory until you come inside.

Although a very plain faced duomo it is well worth a visit. On the rear wall is a huge copy of Michelangelo's Last Judgment. Although it is nowhere near as vibrant, it is an interesting painting. The floor is a sea of beautiful inlaid marble patterns and high overhead is a wooden beamed roof. Colourful frescoes , some vibrant, some... More
