This area was a border from Italy and Austria, in 1198 the Earl of Arco, Ulderico, was allowed by the king of Austria , Leopold VI , to open the customs for those who had to trade goods from the lake . The first house of guard was made in wood, then in 1700 was build this beautiful house. …

This was only open for 2-3 hours on a Saturday evening whilst we were there but it was lovely to be able to see inside. Very interesting.

The Austrian customs house is located at the waterfront just across from Hotel Lago di Garda. A beautiful and quaint small house always decorated with flowers!

We had a whole to wait for the bus so decided to visit here and were so glad we did. A great little find steeped in history. One to see when on torbole.

You cannot miss this one, it looks like something you would see in a fairy tale book! The house and it's surroundings are very romantic and particular looking.
