Marvellous in Moutere

Definitely worth a stop here at New Zealand's oldest pub. A small but excellent menu. Great pizza's and cold drink on the veranda. Great Service.

What a hidden gem in the lovely Moutere Valley. It is a great country pub with a small but excellent menu. We tried the cheese souffle, chacuterie platter, pork scnitzel and mousse au chocolat with freeze dried plums over two visits. This is not your usual pub grub and we loved it! Indoor and outdoor seating is lovely too. Another... More

Good tasty pub food. The inn has a regular fine dining night which must be booked in advance. Lots of local craft beers, ciders and wines. Worth going for the history with photos of the previous owners. This pub has been a big part of the life of Sarau (now Upper Moutere), Log burner in the winter and garden tables... More

We visited Upper Moutere during an exploratory drive around the region. This old pub and local settlement has a most interesting history with strong German influence. The pub building is looking a bit run down but efforts are clearly being made by the new owners to recreate decor and an atmosphere from a bygone era. An excellent range of craft... More

A nice place to go and have a drink. Thay have a nice panel of NZ crafted beers worth the try. You can taste differents sorts of ales on a beer racks.

We went to this pub since it is dubbed the oldest pub in New Zealand. It was lovely but I had the impression it must have been remodeled because it did not feel the age it was built. Other than that (and that was only due to my own expectation) the pub is lovely. The people were great, it was... More

This may be the oldest pub in NZ, but it just looks tired and run down, like the staff. Sorry, not impressed. Some locals we spoke to even acknowledged our concerns. Sad as it could be much, much more.

a good place to get a meal at a reasonable price. the various specials are good, just be careful of the "mild" curry.

This is a very interesting and delightful pub. We sat outside in the beautiful sunshine and enjoyed a delicious lunch. They serve a different selection of beers, wine and cider. Old photographs to look at and a history of the pub to read. Well worth the drive out from Nelson.

We were actually trying to find another place but the app seemed to be mistaken so we just kept driving and passed this old pub. The oldest in NZ it claims. It should probably be listed in restaurants as the food was simple but delicious. We shared a pizza with salad and something to wash it down then on our... More
