We loved visiting the ancient Olive trees near Luras. We are so glad we were told about them. The drive was gorgeous, past the stunning lake too. Amazing to think how old they are. Long may they live!

€10 for a family of 4 but worth it. Amazing to think the trees are so old. One they think is 4000 years old. We only stayed a few minutes but an interesting stop off.

The emotion of a hug with the ancient roots of the earth.
That is the feeling which wrap you when you arrive in this magic place where millenary wild olive trees seem to be guardians of the time dominating a wonderful landscape of a typical Sardinia valley.
Three magnificent trees are there. The patriarch, 14 meters high and almost 19 meters in circumference, and other two younger companions. The patriarch age is estimated between 3000 and 4000 years; he is known as the oldest tree in Italy and among the oldest in Europe, so earning him the title on National Monument.
The patriarch is enclosed and it's no possible to touch him because in the past some vandals have hurt him; fortunately it is possible to establish a contact with the other two and make you wrapped by the amazing branches and the superb crowns. A positive energy flows in this place ... like in the tree of life of Avatar!
The difficulties in finding the place e the absence of road signals and indications seems to be done deliberately to increase the emotion when you find it.
Indeed when you arrive a kind and knowledgeable girl welcomes you with an exhaustive explanation of the site.
No doubt! A magic touch to your holiday in Sardinia!

After reading all the positive comments, we decided to visit this place. Yes, everybody is absolutely right about how special it is to see a 4000 yr old tree. However, we were very disappointed when we saw how small the area was and that there was nothing more to do than looking at 3 very old olive trees. For us, the 10 minute visit was not worth the 45 min (x2) drive.

I visited this last week on the final day of our 10 day trip to Sardinia. It was our first visit to the island, and honestly seeing the trees was one of the highlights of the whole holiday. It was such an amazing atmosphere - you could almost smell the history in the air! The people there spoke excellent English, giving us a brief description and stats before we wandered down to it, and they were wonderfully friendly.
Well worth a visit (I know most tourists stick to the coasts but going further inland lets you find these absolute beauties.) I will definitely visit again it if I ever return!

We visited from the other side of the lake and the journey was approximately 30km from the hotel Valkrana. Nourists books or signs along the way indicated a fee to see these trees and we were not convinced it was legitimate as it was just a scruffy piece of cardboard asking for 2.5 euros each so we did not enter. We felt we were being taken advantage of.

I am a self-described tree-hugger and this is truly one of my favorite places in the entire world! It is quite amazing to be able to see trees that are between 3,000-5,000 years old and which are still bearing fruit! These magnificent trees are well protected and it seems like visitors really respect them,as the younger tree is available to touch and enjoy. There is a small fee, but it is well worth the price to be in the company of these majestic beings.

Exactly what you expect, a small cluster of very old Olive trees. The oldest tree is protected with a barrier, but the other trees ( one is 2000 years old) you can explore. You are going there to see a group of old trees, so don’t expect any roller coaster or tacky attractions.

500, 2000 and 4000 year old olive trees. simply wonderful to consider what these have seen. thankfully mankind has not ruined them.
a bit difficult to find in the middle of nowhere, but prersevere, well worth it.
not some theme park, just natural history. be in awe.
2.50 euro entry fee. worth it.
