The views from the Lanterne des Morts across to Cathedrale St Sacredos and some old houses is worth the bit of a climb. No one seems to agree on why it was built!

And tucked away on the outskirts of the old town. But it's not very big, and you wouldn't have missed it if you didn't go - I'm glad that we went though

In the old town on raised ground tiring to walk there during the heatwave but worth the effort, nearby interesting streets and architecture.

This is supposedly an absolutely unique structure tucked away behind the Cathedral - like everything else in the old town , the oldness is everywhere

This is my second visit to Sarlat and this time I wanted to get away from the main, touristy streets and go on a walking tour of the backstreets which led me to this hidden "bullet" looking building. It's always interesting to discover something unusual...More

If you are close to the cathedral of Sarlat you might think about taking a short walk to this place but it isn't worth going. the city itself is much more interesting

Gate was locked today, Sunday at the height of the season. No advice whether it will open at any other time. Still an interesting structure seen from the church yard below. The church itself is also worth a short visit.

Easily spotted behind and above the cathedral, now a free entry carcass, outside you get an elevated view of the medieval town, well worth a few minutes.

The French name literally means "Lantern of the Dead". There are many examples in small villages, such as in Sarlat. The structure is a small stone tower with a small opening at the top, where a light was displayed at night to mark the position...More

This building is well worth a look, its unusual, and hidden away, but if you get to the church, you will see it behind the church. Well worth a visit.
