While staying in Biarritz, I took the bus to Hendaye to check out Chateau Abbadia. The staff was friendly and provided a guided tour to guests. The interior of the chateau was very unique with differing cultural designs. From the gardens you could experience ocean views as well.

The castle was built in the 1860s by a rich eccentric working in science and linguistics. The architect was Viollet le Duc, who is known for his renovations of Carcassonne and Notre Dame. Interesting guided visit in French of this unique building overlooking the ocean.

We went to this castle because the weather wasn’t good. The rooms of the castle were completely restored and they are very nice. They are very colourful. The visit is also outside. There’s a nice view on the ocean.
You must reserve the visit because they are all guided. You can’t do it by yourself. I don’t know if there’s visits in English. If you have a car you must park it in the parking. It’s free but you have to walk for about 10 minutes to reach the castle.

Nice park with a great view.
We were walking in the park with children, with unstable weather, but still it was worth it.
The walk in the park is easy as the trails are well done.

I toured the palace. It was beautiful. Went for many walks on the vast mountain property. Beautiful scenery.

We knew this wasn't a genuine chateau but it reminded us of something from Disney. The original owner was obviously a great scientist but this building is a poor legacy.

Although the guided tour was in French we were given a translation.

The exterior of the castle is beautiful but, the inside is even more incredible and has has been beautifuly restored, here you will see some incredible murals, pieces of furniture and influences from many different cultures. The tour guide did a fantastic job of explaining the history of the castle (in French, but i think information sheets were given to foreign speakers).
Photos are prohibited inside the castle. The outside of the castle was undergoing work, but this didn't really bother us. This is a must see.
