Among the cathedrals of France, that of Morvan is usually overlooked because the nave does not date from the Middle Ages but was added in neo-Gothic style.
But if you are taught the secrets of the building, a rich story unfolds!
We can highly recommend the tour, which occasionally takes place at 14.30! The origin of the cathedral is described with much enthusiasm and very understandably and the small art treasures are described. (Report of 5.7.24)

I went with a companion who usually likes to spend time wandering around churches and cathedrals, but on this occasion we didn't linger. Another reviewer has said that "you can't visit the cathedral and not see the triptych," but sadly, yes, you can! On my first visit I was lucky enough to see it, and it really is stunningly rich and gorgeous. But on this second visit, although it was supposed to be open at 2pm, by 2.15 there was still no sign of anyone to open the room and we had to go. It's a pity to miss it, but circumstances dictated that this time, we had to. So, leave extra time if you really want to see the triptych. Otherwise, I think we found the cathedral itself a bit ordinary.

What a wonderful well kept piece of history in this little town. It had the feeling of the grand churches but is Hidden away in a little town in the centre of France. Worth stopping by

This Cathedral has a number of beautiful XVth century stain glass windows.
In addition it houses the famous late XVth century Tryptique painting from the Maître de Moulins.
It is in amazingly good condition.
Guided visit only,no photos allowed.
The no photos allowed policy might be designed to sell postcards, yet it is becoming less and less tenable.
Modern digital cameras achieve much better color rendition than traditional post cards and as long as no flashes are used they obviously do not damage the artworks.
Most larger museums now allow photos to be taken, the time has come for smaller ones to follow suit.

The cathedral looks really fantastic now that it has been cleaned on the outside and restored to its former glory..
Make sure that you have time to visit to the triptych in a side room painted by the unknown master of Moulins. There are guided visits every 20 mins or so in the high season.

In Europe, there's no shortage of beautiful architecture to gaze upon, so in no way is this one a must see, but if your nearby it definitely deserves a view

You cannot come to Moulins and not see the triptych of the maitre de Moulins in one of the side rooms of the cathedrale: a chef d'œuvre.

Probably the artifact of the greatest cultural significance in Moulins is the stunning altarpiece painted by the artist called the Master of Moulins. It is housed in this cathedral.
Even though it's one of the city's most important tourist attractions, it can be a little hard to find. It's in the Bishop's Chapel (Évêque), off to the left side as one approaches the altar. There will be a little white board on the door saying "The next tour will take place around..." and then a clock. If you're there during the proper viewing hours (check the cathedral information board or website; this isn't open all the time), wait around. The small room only holds about 15-20 people at one. It's small and hot, but the art is worth the wait.
Our guide was an eccentric yet passionate old fellow who kept rapping on the surface of the painting itself to demonstrate how hard the oak boards are. This was more than a little distressing, considering it's already had to endure at least two revolutions and two world wars.
Tour was offered simultaneously in English/French.

From the outside we were very impressed by this cathedral. The two towers are very high and on the hole it is like a smaller (but still very large) version of the St Etienne Cathedral in Bourges. Worth a visit!
