We were staying in Saint Germain en Laye on our way to Paris. The Musee Maurice Denis was a highlight of our stay. It's beautiful. It's small enough so you can experience the art without feeling rushed and overwhelmed, and consequently the experience is more meaningful and leaves a more vivid memory. We recommend a visit!

A small Museum dedicated to Maurice Denis and other nabis artists. This historic building also includes a charming garden (free access) and the painter workshop (not open for visits).

I did not expect much when I walked from the RER station to the Maurice Denis Museum - The Priory - but a wonderful surprise awaited me. Maurice Denis (1870-1943) had, in 1914, bought a derelict hospital building which he transformed into a home for his family. (He had fathered nine children in two marriages.) Being a Nabis painter, he... More

I knew there were two museums in St. Germain, I just started walking, not expecting much, no camera. What I found completely amazed me. I was inspired by the museums of the artists who were taught by the greats! The paintings are less well known but clearly sensory pleasures. I think never having been exposed to them there was no... The Museum is inside the building on several levels with work from various artists including Gauguin, but sculptures dot the beautiful garden which has several winding paths. The workshop was closed during my visit, but they do hold art classes at different times of the year and the 1st Sunday of every month is free all year around. A small... More

we went there as we landed with Friends in Saint Germain en Laye. I am sorry to say that there is nothing to visit, nothing to see, fortunately it is free. Good point : it was raining and we managed to spend 10 mns out of the rain.

fantastic collection of nabis paintings, a little known movement that occured in between more well known impressionnists and the Pont Aven school (Gauguin). The place is beautifull and quiet; paintings are well presented and give a great glimpse at this high period of french art. a charming small garden allows a romantic pause after the visit. the building itself is...
