This cathedral is located in the centre of the old town and can't be missed, as it dominates the area. The explanation boards of its history are in French with a brief summary in English. An amazing building with mosaic floors, but suffering some damp.

Nice bit of history - explanation boards are in French. A bit smaller than other cathedrals I’ve been to but that’s not a bad criticism. Overall, a nice little visit while in town.

This extraordinary Cathedral is worthy of a visit just for its history having been heavily damaged during the Wars of Religion, rebuilt several times and it contains the scars of this. It has a vast expanse of space and interesting remains of frescos...music plays gently...More

Wonderful cathedral, oozes history; worth a detour. Fine example of Romanesque architecture. The sheer size of the place is impressive and awe-inspiring.

We enjoyed visiting this cathedral. Interesting to read about which parts of the cathedral were built when and why. Some unusual architectural elements. In the heart of the older section of town, which is lovely for strolling around.

According to the timeline on display there's been one form of church/cathedral on this site since around 525AD (if I recall correctly). It was destroyed during the times of religious reformation/persecution and rebuilt with the patronage of wealthy town inhabitants - so it's all a...More

The first cathedral we visited in France this year. And just like the others, very impressive. Wonderful stonework, magnificent stained glass ... It's not the most interesting of the French cathedrals, but if you fate to Saintes, definitely do not miss its visit.
