We visited in Nov 2020, the Narasingh temple in Joshimath. The temple has idol of Narashima Swamy and Lakshmi temple. Lord Badrinath is worshipped here for 6months, when the temples closes on the hill. The temple has been redone and is a must visit. The place is quiet and peaceful. There are hotels around, if you like to stay.

Auli is a littele gem in Gahrwal. Its 16km from Joshimath. I visited Auli during march 2013. The moment you will enter the compund of GMVN Auli resort its a different world altogether. I haven't seen the himalayan peaks so close before. The trishul, the Nandadevis were tantalizingly close.
Since its almost 10K feet abve sea level, one day should be kept to get used to the thin air at high altitude.
On the second day we went for a trek till Garson bugyal. The trek was amazing. As we climbed up the snow increased, and the view got better. We almost trekked for 4 hours.
There is also a chair lift service from GMVN till the cliff top resort Auli. It costs 300 rupees per person both ways, but its not worth. Its better to trek and enjoy the views

Narsingh Temple at Joshimath is one among the 108 divya desams. It was mindblowing to have dharshan of the lord here. We visited once in the morning while heading to Badrinath and again in the next day evening after coming from Badrinath. Morning was crowded. Evening only we were there. We sat in front of the lord and were reciting Vishnu Sahasranaamam. Never expected to have such a wonderful dharshan. There were other shrines also. We visited them in the morning time. Temple closes around 7 pm.

This year on 27th September, I reached in Joshimath in the afternoon when It was raining cats& dogs enroute Chopta,Gopeswar ( famous for Rudranath/Gopinath temple), Chamoli, Pipalkoti, Helang .I stayed in Hotel Trisul on the road to Badrinath which was clean& cheap ( Rs.400/ par night)., As per our itinerary, I will go to Badrinath the next day, but before that I had a plan to visit Auli by Rope way that is 16 km from Joshmath and to have a visit to Tapovan , 18 km away on the way to Malari.
Joshimath or the Jyotirmath is in Chamoli district , at a height of 1890 mt & is the gateway of Badrivishal and to the last Indian Village, MANA, trek way to Hemkund Sahib, Valley of Flowers, Kuanri pass, Nanda Devi National Park. Joshimath is the winter abode of Lord Badrinath & one of the four Math founded by Adi Shankaracharya. The others are at Rameswaram, Puri and Dwarka.
On 28.09.15, We started for Tapovan, 15 km from Joshimath and another 3 km to the Hot Spring on the road side. This road goes ahead to trek 6 km to Bhavishya Badri from Saldhar via Subhai Gaun (4km) & from there to Bhavishya Badri (2km). But we could not go there due to shortage of time. It is believed that the two mountains , Nara & Narayan in Badrinath will be merged to become one gradually and the gods will disappear from Badrinath then & will reappear at this place called Bhavishya Badri. The river Dhauliganga flowing below to meet Alakananda at Bishnuprayag, 12km from joshimath on the way to Badrinath. It is a nice view from Tapovan. The mountain peaks far off are looking amazing. We find the step cultivation on the hills here. We climed the rock of small height by the road side where water vapour is coming out from the crust of the earth with noise. It is boiling. The muddy water flows down with precipitation of cream coloured fine clay and is being stored in reservoir below for bathing. The water mixed with dissolved solids like sulphur, calcium, lithium and so many has strange healing power. One can realise the difference when takes a dip.It is the natural spa which heals skin disease, muscles sprain, joint disorder etc. It is beneficial to fatigue.More over, the people here are gifted with the boon of the nature through out the year by using this hot water . We also could not go to Auli due to the absence of only two tourists . Min 4 tourists are required in the cable car for which we waited more than one hour.

Joshimath named after the math established by Shankracharya's Jyothirmath is the last big town before starting for badrinath. Cities main attranction includes narsingh temple, jyothirmath and the last but not the least Auli. Most of the facilities you would get here including lodging and recharging yourself up.

Winter Chardham are the best option for darshan. There will be none around and you can peacefully spend as long as you want! It was such a soul touching darshan. Was feeling really blessed!

Joshimath is a small, quaint town in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. It is a religious hub with gateways to Badrinath and Hemkund Sahib. A lot of people don't know ths, but it is where one of the four Shankaracharya's Math was founded.
There is a 2500-year old tree called Kalpvriksh under which Shankaracharya was enlightened after years of meditation.
Another religious site is Narasimha Temple where Lord Badrinath is brought and worshipped in winters till he is taken back.
It is also a base point for many Himalayan treks like Pangarchulla, Valley of Flowers, and Kuari Pass.

I think anything near himachal itself is serene take anyplace. Joshimath is a small town in uttarakhand. We visited in april and it was supercool at night.
The best part was rains. If you love hills with moutain you get awesome views with cold breeze.

Joshimath is the last stop for people going to Auli and Badrinath.
ITBP is very much active there. No travel attraction is there in Joshimath. People visit Joshimath because of Auli and Badrinath.

I am planning on visiting Joshimath on the 30th of july and staying for 2 days. Is it advisable to book beforehand or will I get spot booking at that time?? Also, any suggestions for budget accomodation in joshimath at a decent location
Written May 13, 2016
Last week of July doesn't experience much rush in Joshimath. So no real need for pre booking for hotel accommodation. But it would be better to book in GMVN Resthouse (a Govt. Chain of accommodation)as its better and cheaper than private hotels. Hope that upcoming journey would be memorable.

1. What mode of transport do I have from Joshimath to Ramnagar (near Jim Corbett national park)?
2. How long it might take to reach there
My bookings are pending due the lack of clarity of above questions.
quick help will be much appreciated.
Thanks

Hi Harish,
If you want to go to ramnagar from joshimath. You can either take a taxi ie jeep or bolero... or you can take a bus to reshikesh n then take a private taxi from there which should cost you less... the total distance is around 300 kms and would take around 8 hrs to reach ramnagar depending on the weather and road conditions.
Enjoy your trip and do let us know!! :)
Cheers
