POSITIVES:
Fantastic views and a great vibe…very family oriented, Aussie’s everywhere…a village atmosphere without the snobby types or those Corp cookie cutter stores/restaurants you see in other places.
Lifts are decent but they do not have protective bubbles and there are no gondolas going to the summit (which is weird).
Good and consistent grooming. Nice mix of skiers and snowboarders, young and old.
Really nice mix of beginner and intermediate runs. Snow was slushy in April so we didn’t get a chance to hit black diamond runs or powder :(
NEGATIVE:
be CAREFUL getting off the lifts your first couple of runs because some chair lifts are VERY low to the ground and awkwardly slow…it’s good for kids but not adults.
At Big White, the lift attendants don’t believe in stopping the lift for crashes or accidents but they are good at slowing it down so you can drag your guts out of the way. Don’t believe me…watch Black Forrest lift for a few minutes.

My boyfriend surprised me with a proposal at big white. The sleigh ride was beautiful, but the "romantic cottage" and dinner were underwhelming. It left us both disappointed and upset, as this was one of the big moments of our lives. The unprofessional sleigh ride driver was the "waiter" for our dinner. He decided to help himself to the leftover food (croutons) and chew loudly right behind us while we were trying to make this letdown of an experience better. The ambiance was not what was portrayed, with things scattered around and even a roll of toilet paper hanging on the coat hook behind me (how romantic!!!!). We went for a walk on the trail in the snow where my boyfriend proposed to me (which was beautiful). When we came back, the first thing the driver said to me was "are you in a better mood now?". While we will laugh about this one day, it was very upsetting at the time.

1st trip to Big White and we wanted to be comfortable skiing this mountain. Don took us around the main mountain taking time to point out all the great runs and how to get from A to B and back again. Learned so much. For our second day, Don invited us to return for a trip over to Gem, for another amazing day. Thank you hosts, for making our 1st trip to Big White, an open door for more!

First time/first day at Big White so I decided to take the free 2 hour tour of the mountain with a ski host. It was a great way to get a feel for the layout of the lifts/mountain. My host, Adrian, was a delight and gave me some good tips on where to go. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone unfamiliar with Big White.

Amazing family ski vacation at Big White B.C.! We flew from Toronto to Kelowna and rented a car to Big White! Beautiful views from our rental at Whitefoot Lodge (full kitchen suite in heart of village with amazing views), so many ski runs (119 runs) with easy access, we all especially loved the ski in/out! The ski conditions were far superior than Ontario ski conditions, we are so going to miss skiing here! And so many fun activities to experience with a short gondola ride from our lodge: we went skiing every day, all day and also enjoyed skating, tubing, dog sledding, hiking all steps from our lodge! Loved that we could literally start skiing down the mountain from our lodge door! The short drive from the Kelowna airport was great (good car rental rates) and the views of Okanagan Valley were so beautiful! Highly recommend traveling to BC for your next ski vacation, it was absolutely amazing, we made so many beautiful memories!!!! We will definitely be back! ❤️⛷❄️

Snowboarded one day in January 2022. Bought my pass online two days before (save 25% when doing so, highly recommend!) I parked in the Black Forest parking lot which was nearly empty at 8:30. Pass pickup is easy...scan the QR code at the machine and it spits out the card.
I never penalize anyone in a review if the conditions aren't great on the day of my visit...it was a near white-out at higher levels, which I'm told is not uncommon here, however, the trails aren't very well marked. They could learn a thing or two from Whistler (also famous for marginal visibility) and their system of keeping the orange signs on your left and the green signs on your right if you can't see very well. This place also has a lot of rolling terrain, which can catch you off-guard...just about went full send at least once or twice! It hadn't snowed here in a few days, but the green and blue runs were all nicely groomed.
I did find better conditions over on the Gem Lake Express, albeit a bit too late in the day. At 2:45 I had to start finding my way back to the other side and the Black Forest parking lot. Still, at 712m, it offers some of the most vertical runs out of any resort in Canada, and I managed to knock out 7 laps over there. A must-visit on a powder day.
The village is massive with all the amenities and food/entertainment options you could ever want. I would recommend ponying up the extra money and getting accommodations here (not staying in Penticton like I did...2 hour drive later) I'd also recommend going there with someone who knows the hill as I found the layout and lift system a little confusing.
I will be coming back here (but with my clear goggles next time.)

This is an amazing ski resort My Family and I have been to this resort Since 2009. The dinning is the best with 5 star food quality. Staff are kind and amazing, Knowing one of the staff does make the experience a bit better with lower prices but over all this is the best resorts. Come on big white and stay amazing!

Our family trip to Big White Ski Resort checked all the boxes! The flight from Toronto to Kelowna was easy, the Big White shuttle service greeted us at the airport and brought us right to our ski in/out condo on the mountain. Even after Air Canada lost our luggage, the Big White Central Reservations team was there to save the day! They worked with the airport luggage team and our bags arrived hours later so we could experience the amazing snow conditions that first day.
Although it was a busy Christmas season at the resort, the lift lines were minimal, but the village was always buzzing with activity. Skiers taking a latte break while admiring the Okanogan views, parents dropping off kids at ski school, and people shopping for the famous Big White toques - which was a must for our kids who will wear them proudly at school back in Toronto.
The fun filled days on the slopes ended with relaxing soaks in the hot tub or a game of pool in the condo common room, while our kids, with their endless energy, hit the skating rink and the tube park in the evenings.
The worst part of our trip was leaving, but we’ll be back!

Fantastic Snow Conditions and knowledgeable ski-lesson instructor.
It was our second time after 2019 skiing at Big White. We usually ski in Ontario or Quebec. BW has definitely the better snow conditions.
Also, we had two 3-hours-lessons with Mike from the Big White Ski School. We are both now more comfortable with the steep hills.

Hi
Is there a transfer between big white, silver star and sun peaks?
If we purchase a big white season pass do we get reciprocal rights to these mountains?
Is 6 weeks in the area? Dec/jan too much time?

On opening day What percentage of the mountain approximately is open? Is there enough terrain and snow early dec to keep us entertained?

Trying to decide whether to visit Big White in December or March. Is one month better than the other with regard to snow levels, crowd levels?

Thank you for your question. This is an average from
2007-2012 on the temperature and snowfall throughout the season.
Avg Min Temp Avg Max TempTotal Snowfall
Dec -10.5C (13.1F) -6.5C (20.3F) 132.0cm (52.0")
January -9.0C (15.8F) -5.0C (23.0F) 117.5cm (46.2")
February -8.5C (16.7F) -3.0C (26.6F) 109.0cm (42.9")
March -8.5C (16.7F) -1.5C (29.9F) 133.5cm (52.9")
April -4.0C (24.8F) -2.0C (28.4F) 40.0cm (15.7")
As you can see December and March can be very similar in their snowfall, but the temperature in March usually are a little higher so it all depends on what you are looking for.

Has anyone done the horse drawn sleigh and dinner ride? If so, how long was the actual ride? And what was the dinner like? Have read a previous review of the brunch and they said it was a waste of money and the brunch was terrible.

Have done it a few times the sleigh rode is about 45 minutes long. The dinner wasn’t great. I felt sorry for the horses. Save your money

We booked a 7-day ski trip in December and wondering whether we should get a rental car or the village is pretty small and we can just walk around to get to everywhere? Thanks!

Hi Stella S,
We cant wait to see you in December!
There is no need to hire a car to get around our village. The village is laid out so that everything is conveniently accessible by walking. We also have a free on mountain shuttle that runs a full circle loop every 30 minutes. Lara's Gondola is also free for pubic use and assists with guests wanting to move between the village and Happy Valley.
Let it snow!
Kind regards,

We are a family of 4 travelling from Australia staying at Big White from 22 December 2017 for 7 nights with limited Skiing experience, want to pack in as much as we can are we better trying to book things like lessons now or wait until we arrive? Also want to be able to book a Christmas Lunch somewhere on the mountain. Any suggestions appreciated. Jim and Mary.
