The Rose Garden (which is within the Neue Residenz) is the terrace with the hundreds of rose bushes. The Residenz was built in the 17th Century in the Baroque style. Personally, I find the Baroque one of the very least interesting architectural styles and the interiors are usually overdone to the point of being gaudy, but that is just my... More

Tours are only in German but if you are not a German speaker don't let this put you off. This is spectacular building particularly the King's Salon but there is plenty more to see on your tour.

It was the residence of the Bamberg prince-bishops beginning in 1602. It now houses both the State Library and the State Gallery.

If you want to see the Residence you need to buy a 4.50 euro ticket to join a guided tour of the rooms. Before the tour started, you can visit the arts gallery where great paintings are exhibited. Once the tour started, we got to see furniture and tapestries in the rooms. The frescoes up on the ceiling were very... More

This building doesn't look much from the outside, and is near the Cathedral area. However, inside it has amazing paintings and carvings. We couldn't visit much of the building, but what we saw was very impressive - back to the 18th century. Well worth a visit if you are in town.

This beautiful complex was first constructed in 1602, and later expanded to its current state. It contains wonderful examples of marble and parquet flooring, paintings and 17th and 18th century furniture and tapestries. Well worth the visit. It was a pleasant surprise to see that the Bamberg Neue Residenz had a really great art museum. I was not crowded, and the temperatures inside were comfortable. It is advisable to pay attention to the parking regulations, as I got a 20 euro ticket on a Sunday in front of the Cathedral. Having out of the region license plates... More

This is the area where the Bishop lived. It allows a visitor to experience a glimpse of daily life. Also, the Three Muskateers was filmed there. There is a large courtyard and some interesting architecture. This is not a destination stop but if you are visiting the cathedral, it is convenient.

When we arrived we were told the tour of the residence is in German only however we were welcome to tag along and read the placards. So we went through the rooms that had artwork while we waited. You cannot tour the residence rooms without the guide. What ended up happening is she first spoke in German to the larger... More
