Great aviation museum. Lots of history with Dornier. We liked it better than the Zeppelin museum. Figure to spend about 2 1/2 hours.

Very well done. My husband is an airplane enthusiast and very much enjoyed this. Lots of interactive things to do. I would recommend.

The combination of static displays and historical information was a nice balance. Mind and check out the cafe too.

It wasn't what I expected. I thought that they would have lots of the flying boats from the 1920s and 30s but that wasn't the case. The museum itself is very interesting, especially the history of the Dornier family and company but overall for a plane museum, it was certainly lacking.

Another surprise learning about German engineering. We had never heard of the company. Amazing to see what they all achieve.

For the enthusiast a must. Excellent museum obviously dedicated to Dornier. Airfield is worth a snoop around too. Hanger access via pizzeria.

This is an interesting place for the aviation enthusiast and layperson alike. There is an excellent cafe/restaurant on site. It is worth noting that this museum is easily reached by bus from either Friedrichshafen Stadt or Friedrichshafen Hafen bus stations (outside the railway stations) even though the mueum web site does not mention this. The museum relates Claude Dornier's story and innovations whilst with Zeppelin and later on his own through an eclectic mix of artefacts, photos, interactive displays and text. The issues of the World Wars, such as slave labour and bombing campaigns are objectively approached.

I have visited the Dornier museum several times. It is located on the airport grounds, not far from it and with a view of the Zeppelin NT airship hangar and the Messe (fair). The museum is a tribute to aviation history with a focus on the activities of Claudius Dornier and his beautiful planes, from the 1930s to current aircraft. The path collects scale models, memorabilia, documents and is made with aesthetic care and with good interactivity. The rooms unfold over time, from the first aircraft to the latest technologies for space exploration. A hangar collects some planes (originals and replicas, including the Wal N25 which attempted to reach the North Pole in 1925. On the ground floor there is a nice bookshop and a pleasant (and good) bar restaurant dedicated to the DO X seaplane, with a view on the runway. Outside, in the square, other modern planes and the reconstruction of the barracks of the great war (in one you can visit the design studio). An automatic parking completes the Museum.

We had a good time with my family at the museum, lots of history, lots of digital screens to look into more of the art exposition, it’s actually a quiet new museum built in 2007 . For kids interesting as well especially having a lego section of the museum with great art work made of LEGO. Unfortunately outside was only one plane where we were able to look inside , the other one were closed. The price is above average for this time of the year, with 11 euros per person for adults. But overall we enjoyed our time there. You have a Café and the gift shop as well for souvenirs.

We loved the museum, well arranged, with many displays from the past to present all started by Claude Dornier, from his first water aircraft to the present time where the company partakes in space projects. We admire the wide areas, the movie presentation from the beginning to the present day. There are perfect photo opportunities, among real life-size aircraft as well as visiting their interiors. The museum is located at Friedrichshafen international airport, opposite the Zeppelin hangar. If one is lucky, you can see the Zeppelin coming out of the hangar and taking off. Awesome. Plenty of car park (payable)
