Recently went back to Oberstdorf for first time in 10 years and everything was a great as I remembered. We had planned on getting the cable car all the way up to the Gipfelbahn but on arrival we discovered it was closed as they are building a new station at the top. So we took the car up to the... I use to teach skiing here 1985 - 1990 so was great to return. It's a wonderful mountain with many hidden treasures The old mountain Resturant with its romantic feel to it remains but shadowed by more up to date facilities and restaurants Well worth the trip and the walk down - which is not for the unfamiliar walkers, don't... We enjoyed our ride up in the cable car and went to the second station because the very top was closed. We walked to a panoramic look out and then wandered a bit before coming back down to the first station as we were told the hike between the two would be too difficult with a baby. We had a... More

We caught thr ski lift from thr edge of town to the top. Because of the limitations of a party member we then walked down back to town about 5 hours. This did include a beer at a lovely alpine hut halfway down. A very civilised way of alpine walking in my opinion .

If you come to Oberstdorf you really should do this attraction. The cable car is slightly pricey but the views, weather permitting, are spectacular. We walked from the Seealpe station (the first station where you change to continue on) - the walk is steep and slippery but traverses a nice canyon with waterfalls. From there you are swept up to... Unfortunately the wether was showstopper. Mist, light snow was blocking views and several slopes were closed (end of season) due to bad snow conditions Ski, limited number of slopes, although some nice reds/blacks. Interesting for short-ski (1-2 days) but needs clear, open skies to enjoy Quite Modern facilities, restaurant, bar.

It's really nice when the weather is sunny. You can see around 400 mountain tops from the Gipfelstation. The slopes are prepared for a nice ride. Dk i and snowboard friendly. Plus the bars and restaurants are really really great.
