The Bomann Museum is above all a beautiful museum where you can see how people from the region lived at that time, beyond all expectations a very fascinating museum, not large-scale but certainly worth it, you have to look out for an opportunity to park your car. This because it is located right in the center of the city, directly opposite Celle Castle, the Bomann Museum, is one of the largest and most important museums in Lower Saxony. The house, got founded in the year 1892 as the “Patriotic Museum”, was named in the year 1923 after its first director, Wilhelm Bomann. The Museum am Schlossplatz presents extensive collections on Lower Saxony folklore and cultural history as well as Celle's regional and city history.

Larger than expected with many floors and rooms to turn into. The presentations of the local community are diverse and interesting, because of many photographs, reconstructions and education tools. Especially the Biedermeier section is good. There is a cafe outside and of course a small shop. The covid regulations are strict. Entrance is free on Saturday after 13 hrs. There is also access to the modern art collection and light art of the museum nextdoor.

The Bomann Museum is an interesting mix of ideas and themes. There are multiple recreated rooms from a farmstead on the Heath, to a set of middle class rooms from the turn of the last century, to more contemporary rooms. There was a sensitivity to the times people lived through and I, a non-German speaker, picked up the fact that the museum curators were willing to tackle some of the tougher historical issues. Families were welcome and there were lots parents taking advantage of the museum to keep their children engaged during the COVID-19 period when they were out of school.

In addition to the main museum which is focused on the local area, there is also an exceptional collection of miniatures, a very contemporary art collection, and a special exhibition focused on the “hip” period of the ‘60s and later.

I entered on a combination ticket purchased at the Schloss which is across the way.

Even despite my knowledge of German language is very limited and the exhibits´ descriptions have no English translation, I enjoyed the museum very much, it offers you rich glimpse into history of Celle.

Very good museum with 7 main exhibits, all for only 8€. Full of life size dioramas of medieval times in Celle and as the town evolves over the next few centuries. Very family friendly and accessible. Good overall history museum.

Traveled to Celle for the day, from Hanover, to visit this museum specifically. The museum had a lot of great exhibits. Enjoyed seeing the exhibits from medieval times to approximately 1940's. However there were NO English translations. If you decide to visit, I highly recommend an App, if you have a smartphone, that will translate the descriptions. (The lack of audio guide or pamphlet in English is why I gave it a '4'.). The walk from the train station to the museum was approximately 15-20 minutes.

A little boring I am sad to say. It did have a great mediaeval house setting which was good. Needs much more work on foreign visitors getting the most from it. Enjoyed the miniatures though

The museum is next to the St Mary church in the city center.

When I came here, the museum was closed already.

The architecture of the museum is very nice. Worth taking some photos.

Went to the museum on a rainy afternoon ( also granddaughter wanted to see the temporary Barbie exhibition ) . Very interesting museum showing the development of Celle and surroundings . Wasn't keen on the modern art exhibition . Guide book available in English for a returnable deposit .
