First one has to know that there are two entrences. One in the city and one at the old harbour. The parking space at the city side is filled quickly since from there its easy to take a stoll into the city also. The harbour side is newer and has more then sufficient spaces. From the brochure it seems there... More

I found this place by searching for nearby activities to Dusseldorf. Seeing the Roman ruins interested me. The museum was terrific. I have been to hundreds of museums (I've a masters in Art History) and this is a terrific museum. The curation is impeccable. You can learn a lot by reading the descriptions on the wall. I found this to... More

The site is huge but well laid out. Where reconstructions have taken place, they are as the buildings would have been. Well worth a visit.

It was quite fresh weather when we decided to visit this Roman re-built village. There is an arena, some working tools and Roman machines such as cranes etc., some buildings and part of buildings, horse trolleys, houses, tempel, etc. Most of those copy buildings are not very well breathing the Roman atmosphere but in some cases there are the old... Xanten is not only a very intersting mediëval town. It once was an important Roman border city on he River Rhine, Many soldiers were situated at Vetera castle. Next to It was, from the year 100 on, the roman city Colonia Ulpia Trajana. It was a luxurious place with quite a few wealthy citizens. The emperor Marcus' Ulpius Trajanus also... More

Loads to see and do. Interesting museum with interactive features. Buildings re-created to give a feel of original buildings.

The archaeologiepark in Xanten was beautiful. It is perfect for a sunny day, lots of outdoor spaces and plenty to do to keep busy! The amphitheater is the first thing you are able to see as you walk in, you can walk all around (in and out) of the amphitheater and explore. The park itself has lots of grass areas... More

Maybe when you never go to Italy, this parc can be nice for you. The few buildings that are already build, don't have any mystic effect on me. The ruins suggest to be real, but aren't that ( maybe some very tiny piece of rock). The parc is enormous, and can maybe impressive when fully built, but now there are... More

An intresting view into the life of Roman people. This park combines excavations with reconstructions of Roman buildings (a partially reconstructed arena and temple, and reconstructions of a guesthouse, roman boats, a city gate, and some houses). The park covers the total area of the old Colonia Ulpia Traiana. The roads follow the same grid as in the old roman... More

Excellent day out at the park and museum, been born in the area, before immigrating to Australia 20 years ago, I visited the park in my childhood. With our two 10 and 8 yo girls in tow a re visit was overdue during a recent family visit holiday to the area. We were not disappointed, the entry is 9 euro... More
