We called in on a detour on our way from Munich to Regensburg. Not really all that much to see, but the restaurant facilities and beer were good. Nice setting. Seems like most people take a boat ride up through the Danube Gorge and stop off for lunch, which we suspect would be a nice enough trip, but not something... More

Beautiful place by the Danubio River. All the surroundings are greats, very peaceful place. Food on the local restaurant is also greats and affordable. Don't miss the beer, according to their words, they are the oldest monastery in the world brewing beers.

We've been to this monastery plenty of times over the years. We usually park in the monastery car park in Weltenburg which is a lovely 10 minute walk along a flat, tarred road by the river to the monastery. Once there you can enjoy a pint in the beer garden. Alternatively you could park in Kelheim and take the 40minute boat... More

Loved the cruise from Kelheim and back through the Danube gorge, the walk up to the monastery and enjoyable monastery courtyard biergargten. The food was good--I ordered the day's special after wandering over to a nearby table to ask some folks what they were eating. Service itself was subpar with the waitress never quite getting my beer orders correct so... More

First, there is the approach: a cruise through the dramatic gorges of the Danube. Next there's the situation: a large complex of buildings almost at river level (with an inevitable history of floods). Then there's the courtyard, a popular place for lunch or a beer brewed in the monastic brewery. Finally there's the church itself: small and simple outside, dark... More

Took 40 minute boat ride to get to the Monastery. Very peaceful. The chapel at the monastery is beautiful. Food is good at the biergarten. We walked back to Kelheim which was a nice walk through the woods. Trail was very well marked.

We came here as part of our river cruise tours and it was a wonderful surprise. The abbey area is quite large and very interesting to learn about it. We had a wonderful explanation inside the church, as well as a chance to sample the beer (I did not) and walk around. Afterward we headed for a cruise from there... More

The museum was very informative and it was free plus they will play it in English. The staff was lovely at the shop, museum and restaurant. Highly recommend it.

Came here as part of a tour group while on a river cruise. We had an interesting and educational visit as well as enjoying the beer. This monastery has brewed beer since 1050. They have a very nice beer garden on the grounds and the church is beautiful. We were only there for about an hour before boarding a small... More

After a breathtaking boat trip through the limestone gorges you arrive at this historic abbey, which also a brewery. Well worth the trip with lots of photo opportunities
