A grand experience
Dec. 2019
I loved our stay here. The room and bed was comfortable, and there were nice touches like Mozart Kugeln and a decanter of sherry in our room. The four course dinner with matching wines was divine and I was impressed at how well my food allergies were accommodated. Helpful service in the hotel and restaurant. Would love to return.

Revisiting an old friend
Jul. 2019 • Couples
To cap off our extended European vacation this summer we decided to stay once again in the wonderful Schloss Schoenberg hotel. This was our third visit (the first was nearly a quarter century ago). Our attraction to Oberwesel and this castle hotel extends back over forty years to the serendipitous purchase of the picture that hangs over our fireplace...but I will not bore you with that story.

Schloss Schoenberg is a very popular luxury destination. We made our reservation many months before to be able to lock in a balcony room overlooking the Rhine valley 800 feet below. The view was worth every penny!! The room itself was spacious with a large bed, couch, and desk. Even the bathroom was roomy by European standards. A complimentary decanter of sherry and fresh fruit on a side table added to the pleasant atmosphere.

Our only disappointment was with the cold weather that precluded dining outside on the castle walls. If you are fortunate enough to be there on a pleasant evening, this is not to be missed. The Rhine valley spreads out far below you from the Lorelei Rock up to the picturesque Pfalzgrafenstein Castle in the middle of the river. The hotel restaurant and service are excellent. We opted in our reservation for the four course special dinner which was very good. The continental breakfast in the morning was one of the better hotel breakfasts we experienced on our trip.

Since our last visit the Schloss Schoenberg has added a wonderful library, and the very interesting medieval Tower Museum which should not be missed. It looked to me like the hotel is continuing to renovate one last old section of the complex so rooming options in the future may be expanded.

Schloss Schoenberg is not an inexpensive stay but for a special occassion it makes for a very memorable experience. I highly recommend this unique castle hotel.

A great experience
Nov. 2018
This is one of the bigger castles along the Rhine. We visited it in November, it was already chilly and the shops were closed early. So, make your visit before September end to catch all the action. We still had a good time looking out from the castle. There were only a few visitors and locals.

Worth the Expense, Stay for at Least One Night!
Jun. 2019 • Couples
My wife and I stayed here in Room 14 for 1 night on our 17 day vacation in Germany. When staying in Germany, we felt it would not be complete without staying a night in a castle. This was perfect. We packed only backpacks for luggage and decided to take the nature trail up to the castle. It was a really rough climb with the weight on our backs but looking back, it was a good experience :)

The castle grounds has an expansive garden with stone paths, hidden buildings, a pond and other various beautiful hidden gems. The 4 course dinner was delicious! We opted for the wine pairings for each course as we had no idea about Rhine wines and which to order.

The room was exquisitely decorated with a soaking tub (needed after the hike to the castle), all of the necessities, free sherry, a wet bar and television. Everyone spoke English very well and it was not a problem. They were quick to help when we had confused looks on our faces. There was washcloths (a rarity in Germany), and the very best WiFi (ironic, I know) we had in any hotel we stayed at this trip. We paid with an American Visa credit card at the end.

Overall, we urge people to stay here as it was an unforgettable experience.

Wonderful views and nice climb
Mar. 2019
Been coming here since 1984 and there have never been disappointed. We love this castle hotel with its excellent views of the Rhine and the town. The family that operates the hotel continually improves the accomodations and the service. One great feature is the baggage service which takes the baggage from your car to your room. There is only one elevator in the hotel so this is a real plus. if you have mobility issues make sure you ask for a room that is accessible from the elevator. Alway a perfect stay. Great restaurant also with a splendid breakfast and great dinners

Maybe the most beautiful castle along the Rhine !
Oct. 2018 • Couples
We cruised the Rhine River on the Amadeus Royal and we saw many castles along the river . The Schloss Schoenburg is the one that impressed us the most for its location , its view and its surroundings . The cruise director told us that it houses a luxury hotel and that the interior is as remarkable as the exterior !

Magic place!
Dec. 2018 • Couples
If you love castles and great views this is a place to be. We booked a room (you can choose on the web site what rooms out of 25 you would like, they have a detailed description about each of them) with a fabulous views over Rhine, with a tiny and very cute balcony - and it was the best choice we could make for that weekend. It is clearly a family business, as they are attentive to every guest and really work hard to have your stay wonderful. Each and every space of the room is used - you can come and have a tea in i.e. a library! The location is very convenient - it is a 1,5 hour drive from Frankfurt - good enough to escape for a weekend!

I would only wish they can do a little bit more flexible - i.e. make a birthday arrangements on the client's taste and not only standard options.

Other than that it is a true place to be!

Schloss Scoenburg, the old castle on top of the hill, has been renovated into luxury hotel accommodation. It has a prime location overlooking River Rhine and Oberwesel. We passed by the area during our river cruise trip there.

Very well looked-after castle in spectacular location

Most certainly worth a visit; easily reachable by car with good, free parking nearby. The views are amazing and the main keep has been turned into a little museum with a viewing platform which is even suitable for people with acrophobia thanks to its special design. Very nice 4-Star hotel with beautiful interior. We stayed for afternoon coffee & cakes - all delicious. Everyone was competent, friendly and welcoming. Lovely!
