Nice half day out at Schwetzingen during my two weeks' German course in Heidelberg. Thanks to my "schoolmate" Liz's arrangement. Less than an hour on the bus and we enjoyed a nice morning in a beautiful and peaceful area.

This is definitively a hidden gem. I have visited Heidelberg a couple of times, and it never occurred to me to visit this place, if it were not for a friend who lives here. Its 30 mins from Heidelberg, and you can spend half a...More

We arrived at the castle about 4pm and missed the viewing times to look inside the castle. It cost 6£ each to visit. We expected to just see a few garden beds with pretty flowers and not much else, but WOW!! The landscaped garden here...More

This is not far from Heidelberg - well worth the bus ride. The gardens are large, well manicured and full of surprises - take your time and enjoy this treasure. We also got the palace tour (not sure why they call it a castle -...More

It is less than 30 min by bus from Heidelberg, and the buses run every 30 min, perfect for a spontaneous day trip from Heidelberg. I opted only for the Garden entry at 6 Euro. It was beautiful, like Versailles, but much quieter and you...More

I thoroughly enjoyed my visit here. I didn't go for the guided tour (so I can't say much about the Palace itself), and only bought tickets for the garden entry (you need to pay to enter the garden grounds: €6 for adults; €3 for reduced...More

This beautiful place does not seem to get as many foreign visitors as the neighbouring Heidelberg castle which is evidenced by the internal castle tour being conducted only in German, neighbouring restaurants not having English menus, etc. Nevertheless, I suggest you do pay the extra...More

The bright pastel orange castle in a very tourist friendly town. Lots of students too especially on Thursdays! Schwetzingen is also famous for white asparagus...! The castle charges a EUR 6 entry fee but totally worth it. The grounds are huge with a lake (with...More

We only had time to tour the grounds of the Schloss which extend for a mile or more with little cul-de-sacs off to the side. Beautiful and relaxing. The train system in Germany is excellent and takes you to Schwetzingen. To... More
