A memorial to a poet

From outside the house is nice with nice views on the river. Inside the house is almost empty and if you don't know german is a little bit hard to understand anything.

A pretty building on the banks of the Neckar. But not much too see inside unless you a/ have some interest in the poet's life and b/ can read German.

The house is really pretty from the outside/river. I only went inside as I had a voucher to get in for free. I'm glad I didn't pay. There wasn't really anything inside- most rooms were quite bare with not much stuff in. You could only go in a few rooms.

I was expecting to know more about Holderling. Instead, I got only a few facts about him and a bunch of photos of some elderly people. Seems like it was a nursing home before they made a museum out of it. If you are interested in old maps of tübingen, there are some pretty old and interesting ones.

This is a tiny, two-floor museum with a corridor, three rooms and a rotunda - a famous yellow tower with a pointed roof. The small number of exhibits are annotated in German without translations, but an English pamphlet can be obtained from the front desk. Hölderlin lived in his Tübingen house from 1807 until his death in 1843. The guide... More

You may want to visit the Museum of Hoelderlin in the building, but the most exciting is to take a photo of the Tower (and Museum) either from the Neckar bridge, or from the walking Alley opposite of the tower. For Tuebingen it is a must to see and to enjoy.

Mandatory stop for pictures from the middle of the bridge and also from the island park that you can access from the stairs in the bridge.

They make you sit on opposite sides to balance the weight. And you have back rests so that we can relax as we move. The boatsmen even taught us to navigate the boat with the pole. It was really exciting.

if you are looking for a ride on one of the river punts, the hire station by the Tourist Info is closed in winter, instead walk north of the river and some private operators take people out here.

I did not go inside since it was closed when I was there, but the views along the river are great! If you have the time, I highly recommend taking one of the punting boat rides on the river. Great way to relax and enjoy the views. Tubingen has a LOT of events throughout the year, so check-out their website... More
