Kaspar Stockalper was an early capitalist genius. He simply sold and bought everything that promised to be profitable on those days. His impressive palace in Brig is a testimony to his wealth and worldly power. The building is the biggest private building of the 17th century in Switzerland. Visit this representative castle and learn about the symbolism and the history of that place. The adjoining gardens as well as the exhibition "Passage Simplon" are worth a visit too. This is an old building or what's left of it, worth a quick glance if you are in the area, happened to be close to the hotel we were staying so walked though it daily, stopped and saw it one evening.

This was an unexpected surprise for me. I had already spent a couple of hours walking around the main drag from the train station through the central plaza, browsing store windows and checking out restaurant menus. I didn't know this palace was here! Just gorgeous,...More

The building itself is quite charming but I was mostly interested by the history behind it. It is worth visiting if you plan to go through the Simplon Pass as it is part of its history.

The castle is the largest private building constructed in the 17th century in Switzerland. The palace has three...More
