Great short hike with sweeping views

Nice hike for a quick morning workout before the crowds arrive! Sweeping views at the top of the rock. One of my favorites in the area.

Found out at the local Visitors Center that this hike was only a couple of miles (2+ I think) in length but is considered moderate to hard. We got to Castle Rock and were blown away! Gorgeous doesn't even begin to describe the views. We brought our dog with us and kept her on a leash since there were other... More

The views of the lake at the end of the trail are beautiful, but the truly spectacular views are from atop Castle Rock itself. Climbing the rock is a fairly dangerous endeavor and not recommended for most hikers, but the views from above the tree line are worth the effort for those who can.

The trailhead is about 100 yards west of the parking area, around the curve. The trailhead is right where the Big Bear Lake City Limits sign is. This is a nice, moderate hike with a bit of rock climbing for those who want to add that to the fun. When you reach castle rock itself you might not know it,... More

This is a fun hike for you to do. The view is spectacular and should not be done by beginning hikers. The elevation can make you winded as you climb up the hill. Parking can be a problem, need to go early.

Sorry for the belated experience posts. But during a buyers showing appointment that had been months looking in the San Bernardino, Colton area in California. I took my client who by the way happens to be my second oldest sister on a extra 55 minute drive to what the signs read, "Big Bear Lake is Only 45minutes away". It was... More

Easy hike up to Castle Rock then onward on fairly level ground through the woods. The end of the trail seemed to also be the beginning of the trail when approached from the opposite end. Although all the hikers we passed were starting from Big Bear Blvd. the view of the lake is awesome from Castle Rock. Lots of dirt... More

This was a nice length hike for the average visitor. Fairly steep at times and a little extra challenging on our lungs as it was our first day in town and not at all acclimated to the elevation, but we found our frequent breaks helped us take a minute to enjoy the stunning scenery and views. The loose rocks and... More

Really nice king trail-good for families. Gorgeous scenery and easy to get to. You need a Forest Pass to park.

We, two people and a chihuahua, greatly enjoyed this trail on a Saturday in August of this year. There were many other people on the trail at the same time, and quite a few also had dogs. (Unfortunately, a couple of people thought it was appropriate to walk their dogs off leash and we had to pick our dog up... More
