12 soles entrance fee
It like 40 min from Lima and Uber may cost about 20 soles.
The place is more or less well preserved and it is better to arrive early to avoid crowds.

We went on a Tuesday out of the blue and enjoyed the visit. Lots of history a d beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean.
Adult tickets are about $3 and Nicole’s (tour guide) fee was approximately $8. She was great.

It took about and hour or so to visit the three separate buildings and show us around. This is what the called, the last bastion of the Spanish in Peru.

Stairs are steep with no hand rails.

The fort was well preserved with good artifacts. I asked for a bilingual guide but was told it was only in Spanish. Unfortunately I couldn't understand more than half of the information on the guided tour so I was puzzled more often than not. It was an inexpensive way to see a historical site.

Dominates the ocean by the port of Callao a few miles from the heart of Lima. Very well preserved and an interesting visit. Has a nice museum. Important to the defense of Lima in the 19th century when Spain tried to take it's former colony back

Visited this fortress during a nice sunshine afternoon on 12.12.18.
The Real Filipe Fortress was built to defend the main Peruvian port and the city of Lima from pirates and corsairs during colonial times.
In 1886 the fortress was used as a naval defence point between a Spanish fleet sent to South America to reclaim its colonies and the land batteries in the cost of Peru.
The fortress is currently the Peruvian Army Museum.

you can visit this place solo by taxi or buss if you know Spanish. me and my girlfriend visited here and since we were not with a tour group ie one that you pay 180 sol for we didn't have an English guild as I do not speak Spanish she translated for me. but if your with a tourist group they have guides included in that. its a interesting place to visit and it has a lot of history.

That's completely worth it day trip if you have time to spare in Lima. As a matter of fact, if you go early in the morning (a suggest you a private taxi, rather than a group tour), you can be done by lunch time. The grounds are well preserved and spotlessly clean. Be prepared to walk a lot (the pentagon-shaped fortress and surrounding area are huge) and climb lots of stairs, up and down. Besides the fortress itself and the great views from the towers, highlights are the cannons collection, the small museum inside the fortress with great historical artifacts (specially weaponry), and the soldiers dressed in character.

Visited on a school day and got hooked up with thirty or so well behaved but excited school kids. The guide was one of the soldiers stationed at the fort and did the tour in Spanish and English and was very interesting.
Well worth a visit to learn of Peru's struggles for independence and it's naval history.
The site has been recovered from ruins and is still in the process of restoration but generally finished.
We were led to believe that the troops may be moving out but it's still an operational base and respected as such.
