Our tour group visited this nature reserve on the last day of our formal tour and I did not think that it would be as enjoyable as I had originally figured. The tour guide (Nacy) spoke perfect English and she took us all on a 1.5 hour hike around the grounds, and showed us all types of plants and other... More

Our regular travel agent organised which hikes we did. I think he chose the hardest ones. One was more of a trek than a hike and there were no paths. At one point my 17 year old daughter said 'Mum, do you feel like a bad parent' (semi-jokingly) when were sliding down the side of the mountain clinging on to... More

You don't have to be an experienced hiker to go to Topes de Collantes! We did it with a group of 4 girls, all at a different level of fitness, and all really enjoyed it. No guide needed, there is only one path. Of course, if you wish to learn more about the nature, a guid could be very helpful!... More

We booked this tour by jeep at the internet cafe in Trinidad and it was great! A chance to hike, swim in a natural pool, marvel at a waterfall, learn about the birds and plants, visit a bat cave and a small coffee farm. Lunch included too. Our guide Lenia was wonderful!

Topes de Collantes is a nature reserve park in the Escambray Mountains range in central Cuba. The Mirador (viewing platform) that these photos were taken from are within the Sancti Spiritus Province. We were on our way to the El Nicho waterfall which was North from Trinidad for about 2 hours to Cienfuegos province. This spot is about 30 minutes... More

You can reach by taxi or by bike (but it's very uphill). We took a taxi, negotiated at 40 USD. Spent about 3-4 hours inside the park, taking the Salto del Caburni trail. The waterfall at the end of trail is nice and you can swim in a lake with a smaller waterfall nearby. On the way back, about halfway... More

Located 40 min drive with taxi from Trinidad (way to & back cost us 50 cuc). It took us 1 hour to walk down as several nice places to stop for view and photos. Waterfall is not very high, but good enought to enjoy exercise, and swim, of course. Its pritty safe to swim there as at the end its... More

If you are looking for a short walk, still very pleasant, in the Topes de Collantes, then drive to Plaza de las Memorias (close to the coffee cafe) and take the Sendero Jardin de Gigantes, which takes you to a lovely forest, a natural water swimming pool built as part of the river flow, and Parque la Represa, where there...
