There are a couple of weekends during the main French holiday season (quatorze juillet jus'qua fin aout) to avoid because the queues can be horrendous, up to four hours!!. During weekdays in the summer and the rest of the year it's fine with little waiting....More

Planned to take this as a short cut to Hourtin. Arrived around 1700 Sat - queue was enormous. Can believe the stories of 4h queue. I read a review here saying queues even in summer not too bad - not true!! Looks fun but we...More

Our daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren, aged 4 and 7, waited over 4 hours yesterday for the ferry before they could cross en route for Soulac-sur-mer. Saturday, 18th August. This is a warning! Don’t know if you can book in advance, but the long way around...More

As long as you go as pedestrian or with a bicycle, this is a nice and not too expensive way to explore the other side - Pte du grave from Royan or vice versa. During the summer months, continuous trips between 7 and 21.

On a hot day, nothing could be better than taking the ferry across the estuary, and then cycling through the forest. The ferry service is excellent, and the short voyage gives excellent views of the bay.

Took the ferry from Le Verdon sur mer to Royan to avoid having to drive around Bordeaux. Very good service just a bit pricey at €33.30 for a car & 2 passengers. Mind you that's cheap to avoid an extra 2 hours on your journey!...More

I wanted to hug the coastline on my long motorbike road trip from Derbyshire to Mallorca, so took the Transgironde back across from Royan. Good move. On the south side of the estuary the going was easy and quiet and superb scenery. The ferry itself...More
