The thing that made Ek Balam a must do was that first, you are free to walk all around, in and up these ancient structures. The view from the top of the main temple was memorable and the climb wasn't what I would call easy...More

Ek Balam is still somewhat off the beaten path which means fewer people. I went from Tulum to Valladolid by cab (the ADO bus was full with the beach crowd heading to Chichen Itza) and then caught a share taxi to the site. It was...More

We came up from Playa del Mar two years ago, also stopping at a nearby Cenote, which was very nice, and a lovely restaurant near the square at Valladolid. After visiting several Mayan sites in the area, all impressive, this one stands out because folks...More

Ek Balam is a beautiful ruin which can still be climbed and entered. For now, crowds are low but that will not always be the case. We spent 5 hours roaming around after our guided tour. We loved every minute.

Loved this adventure! We had a historical guide with Kay Tours which certainly made it more interesting. It's quite amazing to see. The temple is incredibly high and they still allow you to climb it.. I did manage to make it to the top, however...More

Just returned from a 2 hour trip to these ruins. Quite a fantastic experience. Our guide (Juan Canul) was a real gem - clearly knows the site inside-out. For me, the ruins at Ek Balam must be the best kept secret in Northern Yucatán, I...More

Ek Balam rates up there with Becan as a Mayan site worth visiting. While both ruins have pyramids of 30 meters which can still be climbed Ek Balam has the added feature of a cenote 2 kms from the ruins and accessed through a closed...More

We'd seen Chichen Itza and Uxmal ruins and took a side trip to see Ek Balam. It was nice to see other types of ruins and learn about them. Climbing up the pyramid was a highlight. However, it is not for the faint at heart...More

Since Chichen Itza is no access after a fatality, this is the only giant pyramid you can climb to. Unlike the former - this is more rough, hardly any guides or shops, but makes it more interesting. The settlements around it, and the view from...More

I ll answer the best I can. Ekbalam is my favorite site. So much to see plus you can climb the pyramid and see some great detail in the ruins. There is a bit of a walk on the trail. Some of the trail is in even. The only... More
