The best sixty minutes of rib-tickling historic escapism you'll find in...

The best sixty minutes of rib-tickling historic escapism you'll find in Skipton. Our canal trip promises you a guided tour that's fun whatever the weather with the finest countryside views you can get without moving your feet.

Your guide for the canal tour is award-winning comedian Dave Spikey of Phoenix Nights and 8 Out of 10 Cats fame. With his characteristic Northern patter, Dave takes you on a whistle-stop tour of Skipton and canal history that's refreshingly different to your average commentary.

Above the jokes and laughter, you'll hear points of interest and fascinating stories of how the Leeds & Liverpool canal delivered the lifeblood of the industrial revolution through Yorkshire. There's food and drink on board too so it's a fun twist to your lunchtime break.

Our lively canal trip proves you don't have to let planning or nasty weather get in the way of a good time. Our boat The Cobbydale sails at 10.45Am, 11:50am, 1:00pm, 2:10pm and 3:20pm. (The 10:45am trip runs in the high season, All trips run subject to demand).

Lovely afternoon cruise on the canal. Barge not very busy for an Easter Monday. Bar and coffee served by a pleasant member of the crew. Informative and funny recorded commentary as you go along.

We went on a hour trip and the commentery by Dave Spikey was BRILLIANT , It was informative but amusing , the crew were pleasant and were very helpful to those a little less agile , tea coffee and biscuits were given out for free but if you wanted anything else if could be purchased at the bar , the... Went on the hour long guided tour. Which was only actually 50 minutes of boat ride. The best bit was Dave's commentary. The worst bit was the excessively loud music which was being played inbetween - totally spoilt what was meant to be a peaceful relaxing trip up the canal. Basically, a short distance up the canal, turned around and... More

What a fantastic day. The perfect way to celebrate with 9 friends. The boat had everything we needed, kettle, oven, fridge, cutlery, crockery + - We had a 'jacobs join' with food and drink. Spending 6 hours driving the boat towards Silsden. Great fun, meeting lots of people along the way. Mooring, homemade pie and pea lunch, with games and... More

Went on an hour long trip along the beautiful canal, great staff and boat,. the problem is the permanent soundtrack. The commentary by Dave Spikey is amusing but when that is not being played you get music ie: the Blue Danube, Sailing (you get the picture) sometimes silence is golden you don't permanently need to have something played at you... Went on the hour trip, it was a complete waste of an hour and the £8.00 per person charge. The seats were uncomfortable, in fact they were just like bus seats. Too low, couldnt even see out of window. The commentary was awful when you could actually hear it and stupid music that was too loud and utterly pointless. I... More

A worthwhile trip to take with Dave Spikey with his commentary, friendly staff and somewhere to spend a thirty minutes relaxing on a barge and great views of Skipton. The only negative comment is we had a blind child of three but they still insisted on charging the full child rate, they could have made a special rate for people... More
