Having been unable to find any signs or anything helpful as to where the castle is, we just wandered around Carmarthen enjoying the shopping opportunity. Purely by luck did we happen across the 'Castle'. As soon as we realised it was free we knew there...More

We visited the castle on a rainy weekday when looking round Carmarthen in general. As we were just passing by we weren't intending on going into the castle or paying to look round an attraction we were not intending to spend any time at. It's...More

Some walls, towers, a visitor center, and not much else. Modern stairways make some of the tower climbing easier but detract from the "castle feel". If you are here or passing, it is worth a stop.

As other reviewers have noted it is just a few walls left. It does however offer an understanding of why it's there and also some wonderful views. A few areas are closed off, shame they don't invest a few pounds to make them accessible.

Only the Gatehouse area now exists but it is still worth spending a few minutes visiting. There is a lot of interesting information about the lives of the towns people at a critical time in their history

I went to the castle during a visit to Carmarthen. It dates back to 1190 and has been captured many times, entry is free. It contains the tourist information centre. It was used as a prison until the 1920's. The remains of the castle were...More

Sorry, this should read Carmarthen, a typo which unfortunately is hard to rectify.
