Coughton Court has been home to the Throckmorton family for 600 years, this finest of Tudor houses stands testament to a family's courage in maintaining their beliefs. From a position of high favour to one of fear and oppression post-Reformation, the Throckmortons were leaders in a dangerous age, helping to bring about Catholic emancipation in the 19th century.

Explore this story of fascinating personalities through the 'family album' of portraits and Catholic treasures around the house. Coughton is still very much a family home with an intimate feel: the Throckmorton family live here, managing the stunning gardens which they have created.

Visited today and we were very impressed with the Christmas decorations. Mainly natural materials put together by Becky the manager and her team. There are impressive points of detail including Santa's wellies in the hall, scarves round trees and a garden shed full of hand crafted toys. This is a beautiful place at the best of times but very special... More

Coughton court is heaving with history and is a fascinating place to visit, both architecturally and historically. They go big on the house's integral role in the gunpowder plot and every room illuminates the plotters themselves and how they related to each other, the plot itself and the country as a whole. It's a through telling of the tale and... More

The building is very interesting architecturally and the gardens were good to walk round even though it was late Ocober. The buildings connections with the gunpowder plot are well presented and add extra interest for children.

Made a late afternoon visit to Coughton Court and were pleased that we did. We were able to get tickets for last tour of the day, and took advantage of the waiting time to visit the cafe and gardens. The gardens are lovely - well tended and varied. Staff were keen to share their knowledge and took time to explain... More

Visited based on the recommendation of staff at our hotel near Broadway. Excellent recommendation. Striking house inside and out. Overflowing with history. Docents were exceptionally knowledgeable and obliging in answering our many questions. We loved it. Even the rain at the top of the tower could not dampen our enthusiasm. Highly recommended.

I went here during half term with my teenage son and got there at about 1pm. We had a timed ticket for 3.30 which gave us time for a wander round one of the churches and to take in a talk about the gun powder plot. We had a coffee from the kiosk and then went round the house. We... More

Visited here last week, we were very lucky as it was warm and sunny. I guess with 5th November coming up it was a very good time to visit, as this house is so involved in the "Gunpowder Plot". It was well documented without becoming boring and we enjoyed learning about the history of a famous British Event !! The... More

It was very busy when we visited on a Sunday at the end of October with friends. As a keen history buff, I found the house with its Catholic and gunpowder plot connections fascinating A couple of the room guides were most interesting and informative. Of course both churches and the gardens are of interest too. The cafe was coping... More

What a little jewel in the Warwickshire countryside. The gardens are delightful and cleverly laid out. Loads to see in the main house, variety of rooms & exhibits. The link to the gunpowder plot is interesting and there is a room dedicated to their story. There are 2 churches onsite, a C of E & Catholic and both are well... More
