I booked a beer brewing course for my husband’s birthday present. We were looking forward to it for several months. On the day we left home very early to get to Bakewell in time for the course start time of 9.15am. Upon arrival we were informed that the course tutor had called in sick that morning and the course was... More

First of all thank you for sparing the time to post your comments, which we always take very seriously. We are naturally disappointed that you feel that our level of customer service fell short of what you expected and we would like to address the points raised. I have just spent a thoroughly enjoyable day learning the basics of cheese making. The day course was very well planned, with a good balance of listening and doing. At the end of the day we each had a Camembert type cheese, a mozzarella cheese and a lemon cheese to take home. Lunch was excellent and gave us the opportunity... More

It was an excellent day and I couldn't recommend Hartington's cookery courses more highly. Chris and Julie obviously set out to make the day enjoyable, fun and informative and they succeed in all aspects! It was lovely to be welcomed by Chris with a drink (I thought the way Julie dealt with the late-comers, who had been held up by... More

My lovely husband bought me a Hartingtons voucher for Christmas. I have thoroughly enjoyed Libby's artisan chocolate making course and learnt so much in one day. We were introduced to the science of tempering and then embarked on making truffles, bark and Florentines over the course of the day. We enjoyed a delicious lunch where Libby enlightened us to the... We enjoyed our 3 day brewing course. It was well put together and great fun. The room is in an old mill in Bakewell. Park in the council car park 30 metres away. The course was well structured and they do plenty of other craft type courses to book in advance. *** These are courses so not a walk up... More

Was given a 'Pork pie baking experience' as a Christmas present. Had a thoroughly enjoyable day in wonderful surroundings at Hartington's cookery school in Bakewell. It took a while to find the location (as our satnav cannot be trusted) and the town was heaving with a farmer's mkt, dance festival and dog show. The staff were welcoming and very helpful... More

A fantastic day of baking gluten free cake, bread & pastries with Howard Middleton from Bake Off (2013). the day was well organised, the baking was relatively straight forward for previous or new bakers, made more interesting because it was gluten free so using unfamiliar ingredients. lunch included (meats, cheese, salad) & meringues made by Howard himself. A delight to... More

This is the second baking day my friend and I have done with Howard Middleton at Hartington's. Very enjoyable, relaxing and learnt lots about making delicious (gluten free) bakes. Well organised by Julie and Chriisbailey and a delicious lunch. Would thoroughly recommend a day at Hartington's exploring your culinary passion.

An excellent day making various types of dough and bread. Andrew was excellent and was very knowledgeable. Added to my current knowledge and I shall enjoy trying out the bakes again at home.
