This guy really knew his stuff. It's not just a chance to see a tradition which claims, perhaps rather dubiously, to have been a continual feature for more than 12 centuries. The talk is clearly aimed at families and children he did but he doesn't...More

Really fun to see this age old tradition. The hornblower was very knowledgeable and funny, well worth popping over to the square at 9pm!

At 9pm every night the Ripon Hornblower blows his horn in the Market square. A historical and unique moment of local history.

We've listened to a few of their stories over the years, always worth stopping and enjoying a little history blended with friendly humour. They are all very knowledgeable about the history of Ripon.

What a beautiful story teller this gentleman is. He blows his horn at 9pm every night of the year(so he tells us) He talks about the history of Ripon and the tradition of blowing his horn in an amusing and informative way. Lovely, unusual experience.

After sounding his horn, the Hornblower will give a warm welcome to all attendants, and a brief history of the tradition he represents along with an entertaining summary of Ripon's history.
