Ripon Cathedral traces its history back to its foundation by St Wilfrid in 672AD. The Anglo-Saxon crypt of St Wilfrid's church remains and is open to visitors.

Choral evensong takes place Tuesday to Friday at 6pm and Sundays at 5.30pm. Details of all services may be found on our website.

We are open to visitors daily throughout the year and entry is free, though we rely on generous donations to continue this practice.

Most of the building is wheelchair accessible with the exception of the Library and the Anglo-Saxon crypt. There is a touch-screen computer interpretation of the crypt at ground level for those unable to access it.

This magnificent Cathedral was built in Ripon,England since 672 AD by Wilfrid. We saw the Mozart piece, the Gigue in G major. Me and my family was very amazed when we came here.

My highlight visiting the Cathedral just recently was listening to the organ being played, lovely sounds. A large stained glass window which I always find interesting when visiting churches and Cathedrals, we spent awhile reading the memorials on the walls of people from bygone times, interesting.

We had gone up to Ripon for the races (beautiful race course) early and it was raining so we popped into the cathedral. Loads of interesting things to look at and kids loved exploring underneath. Look out for the hand, apparently it kept the choir in time with the organist who had his back to them.

We called late afternoon to visit the cathedral. It was an uplifting experience, lovely friendly staff and curates. The organ was playing which made my Father's Day, a wonderful sound to be heard. I loved the marble pulpit one of its own. It had a lovely feel about it. A great place to sit and pray as well as to... More

Lovely building, very tidy and neat. The needlepoint and crewel work are really excellent. There are some wonderful kneelers in front of the peace sculpture and the seat rest all along the sides are brilliant too.

The staff were welcoming and informative and the short videos relating to the origins of the building well presented. A place to contemplate, explore our history and marvel at the skills of former generations of craftsmen.

The first thing that endeared us to this wonderful building was, unlike so many other C of E Cathedrals, they didn't demand an entry fee. (See my comments regarding Chester)...... We were welcomed by a very polite gentleman who pointed out some features but then just let us to get on with our exploration of a magnificent piece of English... More

Very simple , but very nice, it has a saxon crypt. It does not have a restroom on the property. Must walk across the street to the small park. Prepare a head of time. Definitely worth the stop.

Ripon cathedral is a very imposing building. Architecture is just wonderful. Great photo opportunity- internally and externally- particularly on a sunny day. The stained glass windows are just lovely and very well preserved. No admission fee but a donation is requested.

This must be one of the most spectacular cathedrals in the country. The stained glass is amazing as is the wood carving in the choir stalls. This visit is must if in Ripon and a good reason to visit this pleasant town if you are in the area.
