Visit our Monorail Train and Museum. Take a trip back in time and see what the Lartigue Monorail looked like this re-creation of the historical railway that ran from Listowel to Ballybunion between 1888 and 1924.

Footage in our film is over 100 years old and gives an insight into the train long ago and then shows the re-making of the Train.

Spend an hour or so altogether re-living the past!

If you are in north Kerry on the wild Atlantic way you must definitely stop off here. Great historical information here on a very interesting rail system. Whilst a small centre an interesting one on a rail network.

Hi I have going to this part of Ireland for over 60 years ( My mum was born there) and last year was told about the Lartigue Monorail just outside Listowel. As I had run out of time last year I endeavoured to visit this time with my wife, son and his partner and my cousin who is local to... More

Nice exhibit of a very unique train system. For just 6 euro you get a short ride and you see how they turned the train around. This was worth the stop by it self. We spent about an hour and found the while story intriguing. The people running it are very helpful and dedicated to sharing the story.

This little museum is a fascinating place to stop. If you are interested in trains you will love this place. Even if you have no huge interest, you couldn't avoid becoming interested because of the infectious enthusiasm of the museum guides and monorail operators. It was fantastic visit and thanks to everyone who made it a really special visit. The... More

One km of recreated track of the Lartigue Monorail. The rails were above ground and the locomotives have two engines one either side of the central rail. Fascinating film in museum from 100 years ago. Although a short train journey it is fascinating watching the locomotive being shunted back and firth across the turntable in order to face the correct... More

This is a really unique visit to a railway. There is a very informative video on the workings of the line when it was open, then the staff showed us some items of railway memorabelia which they had. There was then a chance to get a spin on a replica train. this was really great and the driver and guard... More

I took American and UK visitors to see this unique Museum and they were fascinated. We first watched a historic film of the original railway. Then we had a trip on the train. It is the only Monorail of its kind in the WORLD. The Listowel to Ballybunion Railway was officially opened in 1888 and ran until 1924 a part of... More

A well-laid out museum, and an a unique opportunity to see the Lartique monorail demonstration track. It is the only one in the world! Volunteers very helpful and friendly, and films shows to orientate visitors to history. Would be good to extend these to the history of the main line railway, and how the Lartique and the main line interacted.
