Carne Golf Links lies in magnificent unspoiled sand dunes overlooking Blacksod Bay and the wild Atlantic Ocean near Belmullet Co. Mayo in the west of Ireland. Carne was the last links course to be designed by the late Eddie Hackett and it is now believed by many who have played it to be his greatest challenge. The building of Carne has caused little disturbance to this wild and ancient landscape. Tees and greens occurred naturally and very little earth moving was involved in the course construction. Along the course are some breathtaking views over the Atlantic and the legendary islands of Inis Glóire and Inis Géidh

Blimey - that was windy

Booked this on a recommendation from the guy who holds the course record. Think he must have been having a laugh! Wet, windy and very challenging. But then that's why he's a pro... read more

This was our second stop on a 7 course tour of Ireland. This course has great potential with a great routing and some spectacular vistas of the Atlantic Ocean. The pro shop is sparsely staffed, and while the course has a driving range, you have to pick up your balls after you hit them. (Actually, this turned out to be... More

Booked this on a recommendation from the guy who holds the course record. Think he must have been having a laugh! Wet, windy and very challenging. But then that's why he's a pro and I'm a fair weather golfer. Seriously though it was fabulous. Amazing views and if I was a proper golfer I'd say something about how quickly the... More

We had booked all 27 holes and frankly from reviews and first hand accounts this was the one course we were hoping would be the surprise of our rota. That actually happened the day before up the road a bit. Alas Mother Nature was to blame as Carne was pretty much torn to bits by a record rainy winter and... More

The staff here were very friendly and we were here the night if a club bar b q. Delicious. The course is far from easy. Lots of sloping greens with steep up slopes in the approaches. Local knowledge would be good to get your drive on the right side of the fairway for the approach. We carried our bags as... More

Hit this place on a cold windy day and all your following rounds will seem a cake walk. Happy I survived! Would love to try again under more tame conditions. It is tough playing when the gusts are blowing it off the tee, you have gloves on both hands and layer upon layer elsewhere.

Playing midApril with a 9 AM tee time, we were the first people on the course and had the course essentially to ourselves. The weather was dry and partly sunny. The course is beautifully laid out across and through the dunes. It was worth the drive from Westport. Very nice staff who were quite friendly. They do have buggies (American... More

Carne golf links is out of the way but worth the trouble to take the trip. The dunes are breathtaking and each shot is an adventure. Good shots are thrilling. As soon as my round was over, I was thinking about a return trip to Ireland just to take this course on again. If coming to Ireland to play golf,... More

In windy wet April this brilliant links course is a genuine challenge to any level of golfer, but set in the most idyllic setting amongst amazing mountainous dunes, wandering up and down undulating fairways and running down to a glistening sea, golf almost becomes secondary.....it feels slightly surreal at times....and then one wakes up and attempts to beat the natural... Had a wonderful trip to Carne with three friends including two club mates from The Dunes golf club In Victoria Australia. We were lucky enough to get a beautiful golfing day 18 degrees a little wind plenty of sunshine. Our day started with a beautiful drive from Swinford where we had been enjoying the Siamsa Sraide Festival. The trip through... More

The course has now got 27 holes in play, you can usually play any combination of the 3 nines. The original front nine are a good test but not the most scenic. Once you climb the hill after the 10th hole the Atlantic opens up before you, these holes are great and some nice views of the coast. The new... More
