The castle has an interesting and at times tragic history. On the second floor they have added a section on the history of wine growing, and trading, that is a good add on to the castle itself. This is a good one hour diversion from...More

We found this old place after wandering around Kinsale, and were delighted. We were the only visitors at the time and the attendant was very knowledgeable and helpful. The building was at one time a customs house, a fort, a dungeon/prison and a workhouse for...More

The Desmond Castle was full of history. The staff was well informed and obviously enjoyed giving out lots of information. Wine museum was a little disappointing but overall we enjoyed the experience.
