Bantry House and Garden is a stately home in southwest Ireland situated right on Bantry Bay with panoramic views of the bay and the caha mountains. The estate is owned by Egerton and Brigitte Shelswell-White and is managed by their daughter Sophie and her partner Josh. It has been in the family since the 1700s. The house contains original furniture and objects d'art. The garden is laid out over 7 terraces with a fountain, large wisteria circle and 100 steps leading up to the woodland. The house, garden and tearoom is open to the public daily from easter to october. The estate hosts weddings, music festivals and fairs. We have a separate review page for our B&B accommodation.

Charming with fabulous views across the bay. Takes you back in time. Would love to have stayed longer to enjoy the wonderful terracing in the gardens.

This house is still in the ownership of the original family and has fine views over Bantry Bay. Most of the rooms are open to visitors. Much of the original furniture is still in situ, there being some very fine pieces. There is a tearoom on the ground floor and toilets can be found in the east wing. One of... More

Bantry House was the best part of my stay in Ireland. The accommodations were great. Had my first good night sleep. The hot towel rack in the bathroom was an extra bonus. The staff was very wonderful and the breakfast served was excellent. Wish I had the same delicious food in the other places I stayed. The history, beauty of... More

Arriving very late at night, staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome and comfortable. Our room had wrap around windows, overlooking the stables on one side and Bantry Bay on the other, amazing! Room was large, updated and very comfortable with lovely room decor. Our favorite was sitting in the huge library with a roaring fire... More

The Bantry house & garden is just on the edge of town and worth a visit. You cannot take photos inside the house which is a shame. Well set up with descriptions on an A4 flyer in each room and a photo in each room of what it used to look like. It is going through restoration. It closes over... More

Bantry House is a must see!!! My family and I stayed in Cork and this place is about 1 1/2 outside Cork City and well worth the drive. We took the tour with Allison (who was great) and loved it. Our tour guide was very informative and detailed about the houses history. I highly recommend coming here.......it was truly beautiful!

Spent the afternoon here, just love the garden and grounds in generally. The house is undergoing some restorative work when we bisuted but didn't detract from its charisma. Had a very nice scone and tea in the tea rooms after

Bantry House is a interesting place. About two thirds of the house is open for viewing as the owners still live there. The history of the house is displayed on cards in each room. You can see the dining room , sitting room , hallways , bedrooms and a study. It is possible to book a guided tour. A house... More

I've been to Bantry House many times. It is lovely just to tour the house and gardens. The view of the Bay is outstanding. The Tea Room has a very nice and affordable lunch. And, if you want to experience the best of life in a manor house, stay there for the night. You will feel like royalty.

Bantry House is a nice old manor which can be visited. From the inside it is not very different from others manors throughout the country so if you have some already you could skip it. If, however, this is your first or second visit to such a house, it will be interesting. The gardens are beautiful although they were under... More
