Howth is a very beautiful place, very easy to access from Dublin city center with the dart.
Hikes are easy (the elevation is pretty low), you can see the sea from almost every part of the hike and paths are well indicated and maintained. Several paths are available, the shortest taking a little under 2hours I think.

We took the commuter train from Dublin to Howth. Then, followed signs for the "Cliff Walk," which was about 5 miles and 525 feet of elevation gain. Outstanding views. What a great day in a neat town.

Loved Howth! We took a taxi from Dublin to the Summit and followed the blue route of the Cliff walk down to the pier. Finished the tour to Howth with a lunch at Beshoffs. Then back to Dublin with the train. Can highly recommend to visit Howth.

Drove out to howth to do the Loop walk. Took around 2 hours. Well worth it. The scenery was fantastic. Beautiful walk to pass a few hours. We even spotted some friendly seals in the harbour.

It is an awesome sight ruined by trail of plastic bottle and confectionery packages. Really hated that .

The Howth Hills are just magnificent, a truly beautiful place to walk. We left the car at the summit car park and walked along the path through the grasslands and bracken along the clifftops around the head to the village. It's a long walk but not very challenging and the views are mesmerising.
In particular, you get great views of Dublin Bay and the mountains in the distance, of the city of Dublin itself, the Bailey Lighthouse, Ireland's Eye and the jaw dripping cliffs and crags.
Amazing bird life and flora all around. A stunning, beautiful place.

Beautiful area, loved the walk, really enjoyed it until we came back to find that OUR CAR HAD BEEN BROKEN IN TO. Apparently it's a regular occurrence particularly hatchbacks and rental cars but they will rob anything. Car park was full when we got there so don't think that it's safe just because it's busy.

It's a real shame about this problem because if it wasn't for this, it would be a great place to go for a walk- so scenic and lovely. I won't be going back though as it has happened far too many times so it's just not worth the hassle. Something needs to be done to sort this problem. I had actually just returned from 8 months of travelling around the world with not a single problem or anything robbed, then back in Ireland a week and this happens.

Got the DART out to Howth several times last year to do the hill walks.

Would HIGHLY recommend doing the purple trail (I think this is the one listed as taking 3.5/4 hours - it doesn't take that long) It's an unbelievable experience! Stunning views.

The trail takes you over the cliffs, down onto a short beach at one point, through a forest area, through a golf course and back down the Howth Hill again.

Truly stunning place and the food that can be found in Howth village is out of this world! Seafood at its best!!

I have taken this walk a half-dozen times, at all times of the day: noon, dawn, and in the small hours by moonlight. I've walked in clear sunshine and in cold December drizzle. It is always a great hike and meditation. Starting up the hill from Howth village, you have brilliant views looking back over the harbor, and as you round the hillside all of that disappears and you are left with just the heather and gorse around you and the rocks and sea below. The only sounds are usually the birds and the waves. After walking for 45 minutes, you come in view of Howth Head, with Dublin, Wicklow, and the Sugar Loaf in the distance. You can then rejoin the road or continue around the cliffs. Layers of clothing are essential in chilly weather, and sturdy shoes that don't mind mud. The steep parts are at the beginning and at the end, with fairly level going in the middle. People with weakness in the knee joints may find the stairs at the start a problem; I am thinking about my mother, who might not be able to manage a few of the overly tall stairs.

A bonus of this walk if you stop at the summit is that you can wait for the #31 bus and ride it back down while sitting on the upper level. On a bright day, this short ride gives splendid views of Howth.

Oh, and if you're starting upwards from the village, there's a tiny place on the way serving tea and refreshments, with books to browse. Could be even better if you're taking the walk in the downhill direction, because there are no toilets for use once the tea takes its effect!

There are 4 different hiking routes. You can head to the tourist information booth to get a route map or speak with the friendly staff directly for suggestions. Most tourist walked 1/4-1/2 to the peak where u can see the ocean and cliffs. You can choose to do that or complete the entire hiking route where you’ll end up at the Howth Dart station. There are coloured sticker arrows along the path to indicate the right directions. Good to wear comfortable and covered shoes and may the weather be in your favour. Always better to hike on a sunny day with clear sky views.
