A more interesting story than a stop in the winter. In the summer you can play foot golf, though, which apparently saved the island from being raised for low-income housing. Very friendly dog and good history.

The castle was not open for interior tours when we were there- only cafe with lovely courtyard for teas and coffee. Beautiful day. We were able to walk about half the castle exterior. From 1160’s. Many original pieces still inside and part remains private residence....More

part of our tour of HOWTH, learned some interesting quirks about the owners. If you are luck enough to have John O'connor as your guide you will be regaled with the lore of the castle

The cakes and tea at the cafe were truly delicious. The gardens (right outside the cafe) are a great spot to let little ones run around. A great spot for some tea, peace, and tranquility. Highly recommend!

Ireland seems full of castles (well, what they call castles in any case). They are generally nice, but not spectacular. This one is not exception. On a sunny day, a walk in the gardens or a coffee at the castle may be nice. The building...More
