We were on our way back to where we were staying and came across this museum. We were with our American friends. The owner was in and told us to start on the side walls and look up also. There was so much to see and we all started remembering using the items in childhood. We spent at least an... More

We visited at start of November. We didnt realise it was closed or if we had of made an appointment that we could have visited. It closes from October to March the notice said. We still got out and looked at the yard..even it was very interesting. If back in Athlone I will try to go back.

Literature doesn't describe what an interesting place it is to visit. It is well worth the visit has so many interesting cultural items one could easily spend hours there where is also very nice great for families of children to see how people lived not too long ago!,,,

The owners Bridie & Charlie are very welcoming and they have created a magical step back in time to how life was in rural Ireland. They were happy to help and very informative about the history of the items on display. We visited Derryglad on a quiet September morning and were greeted by owner Charlie Finneran. Charlie gave us a brief history of the museum and how he and his family have collected well over 6000 items of interest from previous generations, everything from farm machinery to musical instruments and tools to toys, most displayed in an accessible way. I personally... More

A wonderful trip down memory lane to see how things were done in the past using a vast collection of tools and equipment that was once in everyday use.It has taken the owner years to gather and put it all together and it is very well presented and explained.Perhaps a discount for pensioners might encourage more visitors, but overall a great...
