We got the ferry over to Garnish Island on Sunday 23rd October. It was a lovely cold sunny winters day. We went on the guided tour of the house. Our guide was excellent (regrettably I don't remember her name) and the tour was very informative. Although most of the plants were not in bloom as it was October, the gardens... More

I was at a loose end while here and someone suggested I visit Garnish Island. I'm so glad I did. The house had only just opened to the public and the guide was so knowledgeable and made it very interesting. The gardens were incredible and there were so many interesting plants and buildings. Definitely worth spending an afternoon there.

We really enjoyed our day here. The kids loved the boat and being able to roam and explore the magical island.

I finally managed to visit Garnish Island to see the newly restored Bryce family home after failing in the summer because of the long waiting queue - and was it ever worth the effort! The Office of Public Works [OPW] has done a wonderful job on the family cottage, extended by the Bryces over the years after their grandiose plans... More

Shocking price of the >10 minute ferry ride aside (€12 per person!) this was definitely worth seeing once, for the beautiful scenery and, yes, for the seals (it's more of a seal rock that you're slowly motored past, than a seal "island", though.) The paltry admission price to get on the island (€3 pp) balanced out the overall cost of... More

Pretty little garden island. Short boat ride to nicely kept estate grounds. It's a great way to pass the time, (about 1.5 hours) and do a little thinking, dreaming and exploring. The walk around brings you to some beautiful views and some neat little buildings. The main house though was too modern looking. Worth a look, a little pricey 12... More

Beautiful island only reachable by ferry and on your way you see the Commom Seals. Hiking shoes is a must. By the subtropical climate special trees, shrubs and plants. Routes are on a card and don't forget the amazing views.

We were there is October, just magnificent. The house was open and intreating, the trees and gardenshrubs well maintained. Coffee and cake by the peir afterwards while waiting for the boat to take us back to the mainland.

On the short ferry ride out to the island, the captain slowed the boat down so we could see the seal lying on the rocks. The island had beautiful gardens that still looked nice in October. Thoughout the island, there were areas with scenic overlooks. There was also a tower on the island that offered amazing views of the bay.... More

Very popular attraction a few minutes boat ride from Glengarriff. The recently opened house is a must see to give a great insight into the history of the Island. Fantastic gardens and a very enjoyable few hours.
