About
The fascinating story of an everyday productIn order to make the most of and help the public know more about the agricultural life of Umbria, the Vecchio Frantoio Bartolomei has created a museum of its own, collecting old machinery and vintage objects regarding the cultivation of olives. The Olive Oil Museum displays one of the rare examples of sixteenth-century presses as well as antiques, archaeological finds, curios and machines used up to a few years ago that bear witness to the time-honored devotion and passion of the Bartolomei family for this type of agriculture.

Learn How Olive Oil is Made
May 2019 • Friends
Educational and delightful experience at a family owned olive oil business. Rita is fourth generation and shared the olive oil producing process with us. Afterwards, we enjoyed three different styles of olive oil, all paired with a light lunch. Delicious! Only thing that would make this even better...come during harvest in November. That’s when it really all happens!

We were luckily enough to be staying near by and prebooked with Rita by email which was very good. We had a very interesting tour with Rita after looking around the museum and then an absolutely fantastic tasting of the oil, their other products and wine in beautiful surroundings. Rita was exceptional, fun and friendly. We all had a fantastic time and I would highly recomend a visit, you really dont want to miss a traditionally run, family business that provides a genuine experience of the area.

The Best Olive Oil in the Word!
Jun. 2018 • Couples
What a treat visiting Bartolomei Frantolo Museo dell'Olio. It is located in beautiful Montecchio, a small town just outside of Orvieto. The museum is filled with beautiful antiques and archeological finds. It is fascinating to learn the history and see how the olive oil was made years ago and how it is made today. Bring your camera to capture the beauty of this town and the wonderful museum. My husband and I have traveled all over Italy, and this is the best olive oil we have ever tasted. We love it so much, that we have 14 bottles shipped to us every year. It makes such a difference in our food, and a wonderful gift for family and friends. Don't miss this delightful experience when you are in Orvieto! You can also eat lunch at their shop in Orvieto. The food is fabulous!

A Must Do in Italy!
Jun. 2018 • Family
One of the high points in our trip to the mountain region of Italy. Completely informative, engaging for the whole family, and an incredible tasting event. The kids stayed focused and their questions were answered, so it was a great learning experience for them. An excellent gift shop at the end of the tour to keep the memories rolling. We have been buying the oil stateside too!

The Best Olive Oil in the World!
Jun. 2018 • Couples
We have been purchasing Bartolomei Olive Oil for several years, and we have shared it with our family and friends. I can honestly say that their olive oil is superior. I wish we could purchase it in the United States. I order at least 12 bottles every year. It makes such a difference in your sauces and salads.Their museum is fabulous, and it is well worth the visit. If you are in Orvieto, don't miss this wonderful tour.

Olio
Aug. 2018 • Couples
Best olive oil ever. Very informative tour of an old world family moving a business into the new age but not losing site of what they are really good at. Making great olio. The lite lunch was delicious in a beautiful setting. I would recommend this to anyone. This is not for children but adults who seek how the olio used to be done and how it’s done in the modern age with out compromising quality.

Excellent stop for oil and history
Jun. 2018 • Business
I am a director of a small study abroad program that makes its summer home base in Orvieto. We bring our students out to this museum and olive farm every summer so the students can learn about the important history of olive oil. The staff also put together a wonderful lunch and tasting for the group. The staff are wonderfully warm and hospitable, and the love that they have for the family business is clear in everything they do. I highly recommend a visit if you are in the area -- and take (or ship) some oil home! It is the treat that reminds me of Italy every day!
