A friend and I decided to visit here after our first choice of Parham House was closed. The weather looked changeable so we were not expecting to see too much of the outside. Arriving at 1pm, we stopped for a drink and a quick look...More

Nice and easy to find with parking quite close to the house and gardens. The house itself feels more like it was little more than a domicile rather than a house where people actually lived. I appreciate there was some major fire damage 50 years...More

I left amazed by what Dutton created and collected and then gave to us all. The house and much content was destroyed in 1960. Dutton then bought new stuff to refurnish. His taste is perfect. Always Georgian always beautiful always comfortable. I moved from room...More

As with many National Trust properties Hinton Ampner offers both a large house to explore and gardens to wander. One of the more interesting elements of Hinton Ampner though was the way the owners actively chose to leave open and exposed examples of the buildings...More

I have been here many times. It has lots of walks and beautiful planting etc. The pond is of interest to children and it really is very peaceful. The only snag are the dry cakes in the cafe. I only have cake as a special...More

We took the 4 mile bluebell walk through the estate. The going was described as moderate but we found it easy with no steep hills. The bluebells at the begining of May were superb with many acres of them in the beech woods. The walk...More

Hinton Ampner gardens are well worth visiting in Spring and Summer, and currently are coming to their best. The garden seems to be being redeveloped but there are lots of different parts of it to visit. There are also pleasant walks outside the immediate site....More

I wanted to do the 4 mile walk around Hinton Ampner , I was wondering is there access to do this all the time or if it is part of the opening times and do you have to pay an entrance fee?

You can certainly do most of the walk, which is outside the NT-controlled garden. For anything inside you would need to respect opening times and fees, but I don't think it would affect your walk significantly.
