enjoyed a few hours at slapton beach , parked near the entrance of slapton ley at the beach car park. Life guard on duty and toilet facilities in the car park. Beach a mix of sand and shingle / pebbles.

Slapton Sands are great. There is a safe swimming area with life guards. There is plenty of parking and the toilets are clean. It is a great spot to do some beach casting and the mackerel are delicious!

As far as I recall there was no charge at the US war memorial, but there is at the tank and toilet area. I would be surprised if there was a charge for disabled parking if you have a blue card parking permit.

Yes there is sand but the beach is mostly shingle. in answer to your question yes you would be able to build sandcastles.
