Amazing to think only a road separates this beauty from the wilds of the ocean
Sep. 2021
Slapton Ley is a twitchers paradise. We parked on one of the main car parks and took a walk around the nature reserve with the dog. There bird population is staggering and it is amazing to think that this incredibly fragile ecosystem is separated from the sea only by a road.

If the sea was to every breach the beach and road and entered in to Slapton Ley it would devastate everything special about it, and incredible piece of natural environment.

Beautiful
Jul. 2021
Lovely peaceful reserve, lots of geese, swans and assorted ducks, reeds teeming with warblers and the usual small brown birds ( sparrows etc)
Stunning dragon flies dancing over the water , the only thing spoiling it was irresponsible dog owners allowing their dogs to run off lead’s and not cleaning up their poo ! Spoiling it for responsible owners and nature lovers.

Lovely tranquil place
Jun. 2021 • Couples
We have very much enjoyed our stay in Slapton, and especially the nature reserve. We have seen quite a few school trips staying at the field centre, and exploring the flora and fauna and the lakes.

Great walk
Apr. 2021
If you start at the eastern end there are three walks to follow, red, yellow and black (in order of length). We did the black one, about 1 hour 20 minutes plus extra time to stop for a pint at the Queens Arms.

Lovely place to walk, nice walk back from Torcross, largest natural fresh water lake in south Devon. Good little cafe at the end and also clean toilets in the car park

A walk on the wild side
Sep. 2020
The nature reserve is a popul;ar walking area with visitors and locals alike.
There is a choice of trails around the eastern side of the freshwater lake that is home to otters, grebes, gulls and confident robins that will come right up to you.

Lots of parking - no toilets
Sep. 2020
The nature reserve is relatively small. A choice of walks gives access to a number of viewing points to observe the wildlife.

The best parking is the Memorial Car Park but there of no longer any toilets here. The information and maps appear to be out of date.

The beach and sea are framatic. Probably unwise to enter the water.

Glow worms
Jul. 2020 • Couples
Lovely reserve with paths along the lake. The information board promised the chance of glow worms and otters. Didn’t see any otters but did see several glow worms. Fascinating!
