- Barbara FWhangaparaoa, New Zealand18 contributionsInteresting to see one time but no moreMonkey mountain was interesting to see - just to have something to do. Very run down and lots of rubbish everywhere which is a real shame because so much could be done with it. Lots of monkeys, dogs, and roosters everywhere. They didn’t seem to be aggressive while we were there but we stayed well out of their way. Too many steps for us up to the temple so we just wandered around the grounds. Once was enough and we wouldn’t go back.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten March 7, 2024
- Emily LBelfast, United Kingdom13 contributionsCute animals and amazing monuments!I enjoyed this! We got a bolt up and it wasn’t too far out so we were able to get a bolt back. I wouldn’t recommend bringing any food as it will attract the monkeys. Lots of beautiful monuments here. The monkeys could get aggressive if provoked (obviously they’re wild animals) but if calm and without food you should be absolutely fine! I do recommend going. Not too far from Hua Hin and doesn’t take too long. Fish market at the bottom if interested, we just got our bolt straight there though. There’s also chickens and a horse too! Lots of stray dogs (very cute) they won’t touch or go near you.Visited March 2024Travelled with friendsWritten March 8, 2024
- Rina CSingapore, Singapore21 contributionsRelaxing but hot morningTook a Grab there from our hotel in the morning while it is still not too crowded and sunny. We went up to the temple and give a little donation and the nun let us choose hand-made bracelets from a bowl. We enjoy the quietness other than the occasional monkey fights. We explored the area and took many beautiful photos. We slowly walked back to Hua Hin and had lunch at Nautilus Restaurant which is inside Kundala Beach Resort - you can dine and enjoy the beautiful sea. After food, we walk down the beach. Too bad we were not in our swimwear to enjoy the beautiful beach.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten March 16, 2024

Well you have to be prepared for plenty of steps not mad hard but there are steps. It is free just get a taxì here if you have no other form of transport. W e really enjoyed it It is not set up for tourists so you explore on your own . Take lots of 20 baht notes. In each stage if you give a little donation they give you a little gift or they did with us. Bananas a rice dish or a little bracelet
We preferred this to the big touristy formal temples. On one side is a wonderful lake near some great little restaurants if you need names ask me. On the other side a lovely empty beach at the other end another restaurant where the food and the fresh fish was delicious.

Wish we had visited earlier as there is a lovely restaurant up here with a great view of Hua Hin. There is also a temple aro it is their home so can't mark this place down because of that. There are little shops also and if you come down the other side there are fishing boats. Worth a little visit

To mention it right from the start, if you’re afraid of steps and particularly of monkeys, avoid this place.
Have read some comments here mentioning “some” monkeys… well there are hundreds of them and some seem to be quite aggressive. During feeding by the monks, they battle with the dogs to grab some food!
Had my bag in one hand (not containing any kind of food) and my camera in the other hand, well one of this unfriendly ones tried to grab the bag.
About anywhere on the hill, pictures with wounds on people caused by monkeys are shown and this is certainly not exaggerated.
The other point to be considered are certainly some really steep steps which require a minimum of fitness also considering the heat.
Overall, this place is not very clean and several buildings are in disrepair. Remedy would certainly require important works and of course the necessary funds.

Prachuap Khiri Khan is one of the central provinces (changwat) of Thailand located in the northern part of the Malay Peninsula, some 240 km (150 mi) south of Bangkok. Neighboring provinces are Phetchaburi in the north and Chumphon in the south. To the west it borders Tanintharyi Division of Myanmar. Hua Hin is one of eight districts (amphoe) of Prachuap Khiri Khan Province in the northern part of the Malay Peninsula in Thailand. Its capital, also named Hua Hin, is a beach resort town. At the bottom of Khao Takiab Mountain - Monkey Mountain - there is a small river and on that river is a small fishing village. This village is in the shadow of the huge beachfront hotels of Hau Hin Beach and it would be easy to miss them. Great prices on fresh fish and all other seafood, so bring a cooler and plenty of ice - the seafood is cheap but the ice is expensive. You have many places to buy food and drink in this village. Great scenic walk to look at fishing boats in action.

I don't know why this place got so many great reviews. My husband and I went there because we were told that it is an exclusive place to visit for peace, quiet and beauty. On our way to the beach, we saw a river/stream that was oozing a foreign white, opaque liquid along with what smelled like sewage. Yes, sewage...human waste! We explored the area behind the statue of Buddha, where it was gated and closed off to the tourists. It was where the local fishermen lived. The whole area smelled like a septic tank. It was horrible. And guess where it all drained into? The BEACH!!!! It was the most disgusting smell... And the town has the nerve to advertise it as a high-end resort town!! Everything was over-priced by 3-10 times what it costs in Bangkok and Koh Chang Islands. For example, a small bottle of water will set you back 30 Baht (v. 10 Baht). I don't mind paying a lot to enjoy beautiful, pristine waters as long as it is true! It was a sham, and we felt sooo ripped off.

No idea what everyone is moaning about this place for! We went to Hua Hin on our honeymoon and stayed in one of the villas at the Sofitel (amazing) we went to Khao Takiab one day by Tuk Tuk - only about £12 from the centre of Hua Hin there and back and he would have waited for 2 hours as well included in that price - which some may say is expensive for Thailand but not expensive when you compare to UK prices so you dont mind!
Khao Takiab was very quiet - there are monkeys but the didnt bother us at all - if you are going to walk around with food and drinks in your hands then I guess you are asking for trouble but if you are sensible then all is good! (You wouldnt drive around a UK safari park with a dead cow hanging out of your open boot would you?!)
Lots of steps up to the top and ladies legs (I think above the knee) need to be covered but I was given a sarong to borrow from a stall at the botttom of the steps.
The views are amazing, it was very quiet when we were there and very serene. The ladies at the stalls can grate on you a little bit but they are only trying to make a living and we got 2 beautiful wooden bowls from here.
Its worth stopping further down the hill and going to stand at the bottom of the golden Buddah - quite a sight! - Our tuk tuk driver did this automatically for us - fabb!!! How many UK taxi drivers would do that?! - I was also given a 'lucky' string bracelet by a nun who blessed it too at the bottom of the tall Buddah. I have never taken it off and have got a new job and won a sweepstake at work since then so who knows!!! :)
Its worth remembering that a lot of people around here dont earn anything like enough to live on so please tip well!

the odd monkey like we did as we taxied up the hill, & was quite delighted to see so many! I loved being in the thick of it all as we wandered freely around photographing the monkeys', so many cute babies! Don't stare at them though as one of them jumped up me, he was after my rucksack. It was one of the more adventurous ones who was jumping in & out of the pool. I can't believe that they don't clean the place up a bit & charge an entrance fee I certainly wouldn't mind paying. Some of the monkeys looked quite sad. One of them had a piece of glass & I think he could see his reflection in it, another was rubbing a large piece of brick up & down like it was his life's work. There's a market to buy stuff. My husband was advised by the stallholder to sit & eat his ice cream at the stall as the monkeys would steal it. Although one of them got on the roof & tried to dive on him to get it as he sat at the stall, luckily the stallholder spotted the monkey first. The fishing village at the bottom of the hill looked interesting, but we didn't stop. We paid the taxi driver (Mr Min Tieamtad) 800 Baht for this trip to Monkey Mountain, Elephant Village, & the Shopping Centre, a good day all round!

Khao Takiab beach lies to the of Khao Takiab aka Chopstick Hill, aka "Money Mountain". If you are in the area, by all means go to Khao Takiab hill, but do not expect too much - a few monkeys, a nice view back along Hua Hin beach and a small shrine. There is also some sort of army signals post here. A few food stalls at the base and that is it. Really not worth a journey in itself.
Khao Takiab beach is the stretch of beach south from Chopstick Hill to the small, unappealing village of Khao Tao at the other end of the bay. Khao Tao has nothing to offer visitors and is best avoided. The beach comprises coarser, greyer sand than Hua Hin Beach and other than a cluster of hotels at its northern end and a couple of indeterminate Thai style resorts fronting the beach, is largely empty. See picture of beach in July.
The area is undergoing a boom of cheap condo building, presumably to meet the demand from over-wintering Swedes, which makes some parts of the village feel like a building site, producing condo blocks of stunning banality of design. Why anybody would want to live here, I do not understand, the area feeling soul-less.
The hotels and resorts are nothing special - save their price - and most are set well back from the beach. Facilities are few and eating opportunities very restricted outside the hotels themselves. Even in the height of the season, the place would likely have a dormant feel - for some, sleepy charm, for others, a dead in a live hole.
If you want only to lie on a beach and are prepared to drive / catch a taxi into Hua Hin, this may suit you, though I would suggest the less crowded southern end of Hua Hin Beach.
Will we go to Hua Hin again? Yes. Will we go to Khao Takiab again? No.

Bonjour,
où se trouve ce temple blanc que l'on voit sur les photos et où l'escalier est en très bon état.
Y a-il une route accès pour monter directement au sommet de la montagne. Merci
Written May 8, 2016
Si vous parlez du temple de la colline aux singes à Hua Hin, pour y aller prendre le Green bus jusqu'au terminus et après 15 minutes à pied en suivent la route qui passe par le port de pêche.

No entrance fee and definitely worth the trip. Take heed of other advice here by all means, but don't let it put you off going - go to the top temple, great views. Also go down to the Chinese temple, it is very peaceful.
Buy food for the monkeys, it is about 50 baht a bucket, but leave handbags etc. in the car.

Is there anywhere to park the car near Monkey Island?
Written July 19, 2015
OK, I am not sure what you mean by "Monkey Island", some people call it Monkey Mountain, but if you go up the steep, steep winding road all the way to the top to where the steps to the Temple on the very top of the mountain is located, there is a maybe 30 car/pick-up truck parking lot surrounded by small food and gift shops. There is additional parking up a dirt road at the back of the parking lot that goes to a plateau where you can stand on the cliffs looking out over the water. There is also a shrine to a famous monk on this plateau and when I was there, a number of discarded Buddha statures - probably waiting until they are installed in a future shrine. So yes, there is parking.
