Its famous octagonal tower, known as the “tour Charlemagne”, its outstanding Gothic sculptures ans its treasures make it one of the most important sites in Poitou’s Heritage. Abbey with old standing walls, tresor room, and carvings. The sad things is the rundown garden, which has beautiful roses ,however its all over grown with weeds. This attraction could be so much better if the grass was cut, the area weeded, and the existing plants...More

Magnificent building, lots of beautiful stonework. In the centre of Charroux. Easy to park and easily accessible for disabled to view exterior of building, with a cafe just in front of it.

Interesting ruins of an abbey, dating back to Charles the Great/Charlemagne, so probably one of the oldest in the country!
