I was quite blown away with the mix in European and Chinese influence on the architecture of the tomb - it's one of a kind. The tomb hall was rich in detail and was so beautiful to look at. I think this is a must...More

Rented a scooter and drove out to this tomb, mostly on a hunch. Very impressive site with a lot of buildings, status and stairs. You should be prepared to work your calves as you will encounter a couple of very steep stairs to reach first...More

I could have spent longer at this huge Tomb. It was well worth seeing and understanding the history and trials of imperial Vietnam.

Impressive architecture, if not a little out of the way. Worth a visit if timer permits. The chambers were pretty.

Strangely the Khai Dinh tomb, which according to our Vietnamese guide, was the most liked of all imperial tombs amongst Europeans reminded me of Versailles; not because of similarities in decoration (In fact these are totally different), but because, like Versailles, it is too kitschy...More

Compared to the spacious layout of Minh Manh Tomb, this 12th emperor's tomb reflects the loss of fortune & prestige, built on a small plot of hillside (tiny by royal standards) using cheap ugly gray concrete exteriors and gaudy ceramic mosaic interiors. No depth, no...More

This tomb was very impressive for me.Scale is much more smaller than Minh Mang. But both of outside and inside of this tomb are totally luxurious and gorgeous.

Khai Dinh was educated in France so his tomb architecture is influenced by European/French architecture. Thus there are elements of European design, especially in the glass mosaics on the walls, and the furniture and ceiling friezes. The temple/tomb structures have a specific pattern in which...More

Totally different than the other tombs (small and on the mountain side) you visit a building which could also be in Europe, but if you enter it you know that you are not in Europe... :-) It's defenitly worth to be visited. Maybe you stop...More

Absolutely beautiful ceramic mosaics. Very ornate workmanship in honour of former King. Magnificent building & tomb. Great views from high location.

Questions & AnswersAsk a question
We are 4 people travelling to Hue in February, only one day. My plan is as following: 8 am - 1 pm Than Toan Bridge / Minh Mang Tomb / Khai Dinh Tomb / Tu Duc Tomb / Pagoda Chua Du 1 am - 2 pm lunch 2 pm - 3.30 the Citadel 4 pm - Thien Mu Pagoda and Perfume river cruise for sunset Is this plan realistic? I do not know how much time should I devote for each site. We'll go by taxi. In the afternoon I would like to take a taxi to the pagoda and go back with the cruise. Are there cruises one way or only both ways? I would be grateful for all answers

You can arrange a private car/taxi to chauffeur you around to all these locations. This can easily be arranged with help from your hotel receptionist or one of the travel agencies in town (VN travel for instance). I think... More

How long does it take to get to the Tomb of Khai Dinh by taxi from Hue? Also, how much should we expect to pay the taxi for the ride and to wait for us for about an hour? Is this tomb really only 15-20 minutes from the Minh Mang Tomb?

All the tombs are near each other and to Hue city, at most 10-15km each leg. We paid 550k for a driver to take us to three tombs and wait 30min for us at each, about 3 hours total.
